Michael "Mike" J. Fica

October 16, 1968 - April 8, 2018 Michael J. Fica, loving father, husband, and son returned to his heavenly home on April 8, 2018. He has 5 children, Zak, Emily, David, Joey, and Ben and a wife, Ila Fica to whom he was married for 28 years. Michael was born in Pocatello, Idaho, moved when he was 2 years old to Boise, and grew up there. He attended Borah High School and graduated in 1987. He went on a mission for the LDS church for 2 years in Washington D.C. After returning from his mission he attended Idaho State University and graduated with his B.S. in 1993 and headed back to D.C for law school at Georgetown. He successfully completed his education and came back to Idaho to clerk for the Honorable Judge B. Lynn Winmill. After clerking he secured a positon as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Pocatello office. He worked there for 20 years. Mike's career goal was to make a difference. During his time of service for the federal courts, he focused his energy on prosecuting drug cases while never losing sight of the humanity of the defendants. He often checked in with them to see how they were doing, encouraging them to take a different path. He was instrumental in bringing mock trial to our state and worked tirelessly to teach and coach our high school students how the law works. He was also very active in the ISU Alumni association, high school debate and speech, boy scouts, and helping friends plan trips. He loved coaching little league football and the kids adored him as their coach. His favorite hobbies were everything Disney and working as a referee and umpire for our high schools. He had an annual pass to both Disney parks and went as often as he could and had a whole Disney family he loved. He enjoyed traveling, geocaching with his boys, collecting national park stamps, cross country skiing, and coin and patch collecting. He will be greatly missed by his family and the community as a whole. A memorial service is planned for Saturday May 5, 2018, at 3:00 at the LDS church at 655 S. Grant in Pocatello. In lieu of gifts or flowers, Mike would have loved to volunteer at "Give Kids the World" at Disney-world. It was planned for his family to go this winter, so they are still going in his honor.
