Mervel E Blakesley

May 27, 1952 — November 12, 2020

On Thursday November 12, 2020, Mervel E Blakesley Jr. (68) passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family. Merv was born on May 27, 1952, in Elkhart, Indiana to Mervel E Blakesley and Irene Marie Inman. He was the fourth of six children. His family moved to Southern California when he was young. California was where he attended school, graduating from Chino High School. He loved the beach, the warmth, and the hustle and bustle busyness of the area. He loved his lifelong friends from his youth and shared many stories and experiences of their influence. His family moved to Utah, where Merv left for an LDS mission. He served in the Guatemala El Salvador mission, 1971-1973. Upon his return Merv met his eternal companion, Jeanne Wade, and was married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1975. They were blessed with 4 children; one daughter, Mandy, and 3 sons, Merv III, Benjamin and Robert. Merv was a proud graduate of the University of Utah, graduating in 3 years with a Bachelor of Science in Finance and an MBA. During his life, Merv worked in many different areas. He was a vet assistant in California, moved water pipe during a summer in Morley Idaho, worked in the clothing industry, wire industry, and managed a Wienerschnitzel, all in Utah. With his degree he taught at NDSU, and worked in the medical field as a Finance/Cash manager, in Fargo, North Dakota, and Detroit, Michigan. Changing his career interests, he started working with computers, working in Chicago, Illinois and Mount Vernon, Ohio. He made many friends in all the places he lived and loved traveling and exploring everywhere they moved.

Merv loved building cars, taking pictures, reading, listening to music, going to Yellowstone, telling jokes, and entertaining friends.

Merv was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. He served in many callings, from nursery assistant to stake clerk. He spent many years going to Scout camp with his sons. He loved being with the boys but preferred the comforts of his home…bed, shower, warmth and no dirt.

Merv was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a nephew. He is survived by; his wife, Jeanne, his children: Mandy, Merv (Ashley), Benjamin, and Robert (Eleesha), 3 granddaughters, 2 brothers: Michael and Harold (Patti), 2 sisters: Dolores Higginson (Steven) and Shelia Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. He is loved by all.
