Merrill Lynn Moon

August 30, 1957 — May 6, 2024

Merrill Lynn Moon, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024.

Merrill Lynn Moon was born in Pocatello, Idaho on August 30, 1957, to William “Neal” Moon and Phyllis Moon. He was the youngest of seven children.

Merrill attended Pocatello High School where he was active in Key Club and received the honor of Distinguished Young Man. During this time, he met the love of his life, Jill, even though she went to a rival school. He made lifelong friends and memories throughout high school.

After high school, Merrill went on a mission to the Mexico Torreon mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as an assistant to the President and loved sharing his testimony with those around him. When he returned home from his mission, he and Jill married on January 5, 1979 in the Idaho Falls temple. They had four children, which he described as “the most beautiful children in the world,” Jeff, Trevor, Nicole, and Jordan. While raising young children with Jill, Merrill graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance with a minor in Spanish. He went on to get his Master of Business Administration through Idaho State University. He worked at AMI, which later became ON Semiconductor, throughout his professional career.

Merrill loved music, trivia, games, puzzles, practical jokes, and most importantly his family. Merrill also loved serving for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a high counselor, bishopric member, and was a frequent Sunday school teacher.

Merrill was diagnosed with leukemia and after many years was able to get a bone marrow transplant. He had many health struggles because of this, but he stayed positive through it all. To the end he had his sense of humor and love for his family. He truly cherished the extra time he was able to have because of the transplant. We are all grateful for Angie, his bone marrow donor, for all the extra visits, laughs, and games of Mexican Train.

Merrill is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Moon, son Jeff Moon (Amber) of Gilbert, AZ; son Trevor Moon (Cindy) of Walla Walla, WA; daughter Nicole Fish (Preston) of Salt Lake City, UT; son Jordan Moon of London, UK; and six grandchildren, Arianne (Kota), Justin, Chloe, Payton, Logan, and Ali. He was also survived by his siblings Phyllis Baker, Merlin Moon, Darryl Moon, and Beverly Randall. He was preceded in death by his father William Neal Moon, his mother Phyllis Moon, sister Elaine Moon, and brother Marvin Moon.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to National Marrow Donor Program (formerly Be the Match) in the family’s honor.
