Encinitas, Ca. - Melvin John Lake, 93, passed away peacefully at the Veterans Hospital, La Jolla, California on January 18, 2016. Melvin was born, the oldest of a set of twins, on April 29, 1922 in Pocatello, Idaho and was second youngest of eight children of John James Lake and Otense Rosedahl Lake. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and Lava Hot Springs. After moving to Lava, he met the love of his life, Donna R. Avery and was married on February 1, 1942. He served in World War II as a telegraph operator in Italy and North Africa. After the war ended he worked for UPRR, turning his attention to auto mechanics, he worked at the Lava Chevron Station until 1968, moving to Blackfoot and accepting a position with American Potato Mfg. as a forklift mechanic. Melvin enjoyed family outings, fishing, hunting, card games, and playing horse shoes with his family. Melvin moved to California with his son (Rick) in 2012 after the love of his life (Donna) passed away. They were married for 70 years. Melvin is survived by his children, Rick John Lake, William (Bill) Lake, and Vicky Herron; 9 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of (70 years) Donna Lake; Parents & Siblings. Graveside Celebration of Life & Memorial will be held at the Lava Hot Springs Cemetery on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 1pm , with Army Military Honors.
