Emma Maxcine Brower Jardine, age 85, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2014, in Pocatello, Idaho. She was born on June 30, 1928 in Felt, Idaho, to Hazel Pauline Walton and William Earl Brower, the seventh of ten children. After graduating from Teton High School, she attended Utah Agricultural College (now Utah State University) where she majored in Physical Education and minored in Education. Her first summer home from teaching school in Alta, Wyoming, her sweetheart, Reed Fayne Jardine, finally realizing what a great catch she was, proposed and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 21, 1949.
Maxcine was proud to be a stay-at-home mom and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling her family with love and support. She had a knack for making each of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren feel like they were the favorite, because they were. She enjoyed playing sports, camping, motorcycling, and snowmobiling with her family. She wrote and directed roadshows and performed pantomimes for her church and the PTA. She made friends easily, enjoyed visiting with people, playing cards with her pinochle group, square dancing, and playing good-natured jokes on friends and family.
Maxcine was active in her church, serving in many roles, her favorites being in the Idaho Falls and Jordan River Temples, and as Relief Society President. In January 1995, she and Reed were called as missionaries to the New Zealand Auckland Mission where they spent the majority of their time serving and loving the people on Niue Island.
Maxcine will be remembered for the twinkle in her eye, cheerful countenance, and sharp mind, even as she struggled with health problems the last several years. Her grandchildren fondly recall her quick wit, funny sayings, and listening ear. They loved to play games with her as she entertained them with her humorous comments.
Maxcine is survived by Reed Jardine, her loving husband of sixty-four years; son, Bryce Jardine (Sheree); daughters, Sharolyn Shipley (Jim "June"), Deby Miller (Gil), and Trina Metcalf (Steve); fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, LaRee Brower Casper.
