Max Kenneth Ranstrom, 81, of Pocatello passed away on Friday March 11, 2011 at a local health care facility after a long illness.
Max was born on May 17th, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho to Anna Virginia Higgins and August Leonard Ranstrom. Max was the seventh of eight children, and grew up in the Alameda area.
Max began his apprenticeship as a carman at the Union Pacific Railroad on February 21st, 1947. He married Doris Fell, on July 24th, 1948. Together they had three daughters: Connie, Cindy and Tammy.
Max retired from the UPRR in 1989, after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Transportation Communications Union for 65 years. Max loved to plant a large garden, and always shared his produce with friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed bowling with family and friends on several bowling leagues. He also loved pheasant hunting with his buddies, camping, and fishing.
After retirement, Max enjoyed following his grandkids to many sporting events. He also enjoyed “Thursday " Pie Day” and Bingo at the Elks. Max as a youngster was raised in the LDS faith, but later in life enjoyed friends and family at the Gate City Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Ranstrom; two daughters, Connie (Mike) Dubbe and Cindy (Brent) Taft; five grandchildren, Shelley (Mark) Huelsman, Daren (Tracie) Dubbe, Jennifer (Jared Wilhelm, Jeffery (Danessa) Christensen, Jake Taft; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Kylie, Hunter and Kassidy; brother, Jack Ranstrom; and three cocker-spaniels, Muttley, K.C. and Princess.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, one daughter and a son-in-law.
