Maurine Van Orden Driscoll was born February 18, 1928 at home in Thomas, Idaho to Ethel Claire and Edmond Van Orden. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. She was the second of 10 children and the only daughter. She also had three half-sisters and three half-brothers from her dad's previous marriage.
She attended Snake River Schools, skipping the second grade, and graduating in 1945 as valedictorian. After graduation she attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City receiving a certificate in Home Economics. At the age of 18 she taught Home Economics at Snake River High School and was the Clerk at the Migrant office in the summer.
She married her high school sweetheart Douglas Driscoll in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Dec. 3, 1947. They had six children: Iris (Richard) Schelske, Andrea (Garry) Myler, Nancy (Bill) George, Shelley Driscoll, Jeff (Julie) Driscoll, and Mart (Anna) Driscoll.
She served her community in many ways including School Board Member, Chamber of Commerce President twice and was the first woman Mayor in the State of Idaho serving Aberdeen for ten years. She was among those who planned and completed the Hazard Creek Golf Course in Aberdeen and enjoyed golfing there often. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many callings throughout her life. She enjoyed sports, gardening, music, quilting, but above all, she enjoyed family.
Maurine is survived by five children, 21 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Doug Driscoll, a daughter Iris, two granddaughters Jami Dawn Monsen, and Jill Martinsen and three brothers Dean, LaVon, and Cyril Van Orden.
Funeral services for Maurine will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the Aberdeen LDS Church. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the LDS Church and one hour prior to services. Interment will follow services on Monday in the Aberdeen Cemetery.
