Maurice James Ames, age 85 and a long time resident of Pocatello, passed away in Ogden, Utah on Monday, October 11, 2010. Maurice was born to Clark and Mary (Thomson) Ames on June 16, 1925 in Pocatello, Idaho as a twin in his parents' home. His sister Margaret was born 15 minutes before him. He was raised in a large family of 10 including his parents, on Washington Street. Maurice married Ruth Appel on May 12, 1946, and they had three children; Albert, Jim and Pamela. He was employed at the UPRR in the steel yard, fuel depot, and the cab track and he retired after 45 years of service working from 1942 through 1987. He enjoyed gardening and sharing what was home grown. Including, Raspberries and red potatoes. Maurice and Ruth received many complements on the flowers and roses that they grew. He also enjoyed traveling with his sweetheart Ruth. Some of their favorite memories were trips to the New England States and also time spent in Oregon; fall was his most favorite time to travel. He was always willing to help the neighbors with snow removal and yard work for all the widows in his neighborhood. Maurice had a natural ability to build; he had dug his basement, built his home and expanded it with an upper addition in later years Maurice and Ruth moved to Pleasant View, Utah a few years back to be c loser to their son Jim and wife Tammie. They enjoyed all their time with FAMILY. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a son, Albert and a daughter, Pam; six brothers and a baby sister. He is survived by his son, Jim (Tammie) Ames; a sister, Margaret McMahen of Waco, TX; four grandsons; Leland and wife Wendi, Scotti Sr., Tobby , Clark and wife Rebecca; four great grandkids, Izik, Mya, Scotti Jr., Donte; daughter-in-law Karla Ames. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 South 4th Avenue. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6 - 8:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the services also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
