Matthew Steven Burk

d. September 13, 2014

Matthew "Matt" Steven Burk, an extraordinary man, husband, father, son, brother, and loyal friend, left his mortal life on September 13, 2014. He left us much too soon at only 37 years of age. As we sadly say goodbye, those who have passed before him, are welcoming him to his eternal home. Matt was born in Pocatello, Idaho on October 1, 1976. He was a mamas boy. As he grew, it was obvious that he had natural athletic ability. Because of his size and strength, as well as his passion, football became his favorite sport. Matt attended school in Pocatello, and was able to spend some of his high school years at both Highland and Pocatello High. He met his first love, Heather Fowers, at 13 years old. On March 25, 1994 they married. Eventually, they were blessed with three beautiful children, Breyana, age 20, Madison, age 18, and the youngest, and only son, Trevon, age 16. Being an innate family man, Matt continuously surrounded himself with loved ones. Matt always said, "Family is most important." Whether fishing, playing Frisbee golf, or going on random car rides, he usually included his wife, children, and extended family. Captivated by the outdoors, Matt liked hunting, ATVs, and enjoying beautiful, sunny days. He felt the need to be outside and tended to be hands on with everything. It may be the reason he worked in construction for most of his adult years. Matts smile, warm heart, and love for others, easily brought out a smile on the faces of everyone around him. His sense of humor could draw a laugh from many. He had a quick wit and soft heart which also explains the love he felt for his dog, Dozer. Matt is survived by his wife, Heather; children, Breyana Burk, Madison Burk, Trevon Burk; mother, Judy Burk, father, Steve Burk; sisters, Angela Buhl, Alicia Walker, Dariell Seibold, little sister, Kjerstin Auger; and brother, Jesse Burk. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his niece, Kallie Burk; and his cousin, Ben Burk. Funeral services for Matt will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 2 PM at the LDS Church located at 954 E. Walnut St. (corner of Walnut & Jefferson St.) Pocatello, Idaho 83201. Family will receive friends from 1-2 PM, for one hour, prior to services at the church. In Matts honor, the family is asking those attending to please wear shades of blue.
