Mary E. Steele, 73, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 30, 2012. Mary was born on April 20, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho, to William E. and Eva V. Hawkley. Mary was the youngest of three children. She married her high school sweetheart, Vern P. Steele, on September 1 st , 1956, and was sealed for time and eternity on August 27, 1966 in the Idaho Falls temple. Mary attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho, graduating from Pocatello High School. She later attended Idaho State University graduating with a Bachelor's degree in computer programming. After graduating, Mary worked at Idaho State University for many years. She later worked for In Home Services and then for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). Mary was a dedicated visiting teacher and visiting teacher supervisor in her ward. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. Mary loved her dog, Sulynn, and enjoyed many hobbies like reading, knitting, scrapbooking, and playing games on her computer. She also loved to spend time with her great grandchildren in her backyard. She enjoyed the outdoors. Spending time on her deck watching her waterfall and pond gave her a lot of enjoyment. Mary is survived by her children, Richard A. Steele (Kay) of Roseburg, Oregon; Brenda L. Swafford of Boise, Idaho; Nancy A Steele of Pocatello, Idaho; and Karena Boswell (Stephen) of Pocatello, Idaho. She is also survived by her Brother, Donald Hawkley of Boise, Idaho; and seven grandchildren, Crystal Sutphen, Rebecca Steele, Amber Steele, Jammie Steele, Matthew Newbold, Rachel Malone, Jason Malone, and ten great grand children. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Vern P. Steele; her father, William E. Hawkley; her mother, Eva V. Hawkley; her brother, Kenneth Hawkley; and her half brother, Bill Hawkley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 7, 2013, at the LDS Chapel on 300 East Chapel with Bishop Ken Stronks officiating, A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow services at Mountain View Cemetery.
