Mary Lou Green

Mary Lucile Green 83, of Pocatello passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Ridge Wind Assisted Living Facility, Chubbuck.

Mary Lou was born on July 8, 1928 in Vernal, Utah to Josephine Marie Hacking and J. Lamar Bird.

Mary Lou had a strong love of music and sharing her love of it, and her love to others in her life. She also had a strong gift of healing and being healed. These gifts were strongly and freely shared and were a blessing in the lives of others.

Mary Lou's family moved to Los Angeles where her father became employed as a film developer for MGM Studios in Culver City, California. He worked on developing many films including, Gone With the Wind and Wizard of OZ. In her senior year of high school, a friend of the family introduced Mary Lou to her nephew, Murray G. Green, who was a returning home sailor from the Pacific serving in WWII. They were lined up on a blind date (Mary Lou's Senior All Night Party) and went to the Pacific Ocean Park Pier in Santa Monica and danced to the band of Lawrence Welk. Their acquaintance grew into a romance that led them to being married February 10, 1951. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George, Utah Temple.

Murray and Mary Lou made their home in Pocatello, Idaho and were the proud parents of six children. Mary Lou was a loving homemaker. As the years progressed and as the children grew, she worked in the Master Card Department of Idaho Bank and Trust where she retired June 6, 1986.

Mary Lou loved music and for years was the primary chorister in her local church, teaching many of the children an appreciation of her love of music. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother, Primary President, Mutual President, Relief Society President, and was a teacher in several positions teaching the youth. She was also a visiting teacher and sang as an alto in the Singing Mothers, and her local church congregation choir. Before she was married, she was a Home Missionary for her church in Los Angeles. She graduated with honors from Venice High School in Venice, California where she served as a class officer and was active in many clubs.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years. Murray passed away April 14, 2012, forty-seven days prior to her passing. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marie Schaerrer. Mary Lou is survived by her sister, Donna Bird of Provo, Utah; her six children, Ann Green Harrild (Patrick Harrild; Maurine Green Oates (Gene Oates); Lynn Green; Doris Green Cogdill (Jerry Cogdill); Grant Green (Christine Green); and Tim Green (Terri Green); and her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

On the day of her passing, her horoscope in the Idaho State Journal read: “Settle in and decide which way to go with an important decision. You might push someone too far. As a result, he or she could become far more difficult. Look to more creative and dynamic solutions that don't involve this person ultimately, everyone will be happier. Tonight: Happy at Home.”

Mary Lou passed away and went home May 31, 2012 at 7:38 PM, MST.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 from 6 to 8p.m. at the Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, in Chubbuck. A final viewing will be held 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2012 prior to the funeral services which will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilks Funeral Home. Following the funeral service, a graveside service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, in Pocatello.

Mary Lou's family wishes to extend a special thanks to Creekside Emcompass Hospice, and a special, loving, thank you to all the staff at the Ridge Wind Assisted Living Center.
