Mary Burton Kulbacki

Mary was born in Grace, Idaho on the Burton Ranch May 24, 1926. During the depression she moved to Ogden then Oakland, California where she met and married her husband Edward L. Kulbacki on October 4, 1943. Immediately after their marriage, Ed left to serve his country as a medic in France and Mary moved with her family back to Utah. Over the years, Mary had several interesting jobs. During World War II, Mary worked at a Twinkie factory, at a munitions plant and as a laundress for the Union Pacific Railroad until the war ended and Ed returned home. Mary became a mother in 1947 and her sister, Jean was added to the mix. Mary and Ed jointly raised all of their five children and Marys sister in a wonderfully loving environment teaching respect, honesty and the joy of good hard work. After the birth of her youngest daughter Debra, Mary returned to work in Ogden as a grocery checker. In 1964 Ed was transferred with his job to Pocatello and Mary worked as a homemaker with the Department of Health and Welfare until she retired. Mary is from one of the original pioneer families that entered the Salt Lake Valley. Her twice great grandmother, Patty Bartlett Sessions was the only midwife for the journey and during their initial settlement. She accompanied Brigham Young and many other Mormons and was the mother of Perrigrine Sessions who founded Bountiful, Utah. Because of this rich history with the church, Mary was raised in the LDS faith. She continued the tradition, raising all five children in the church with the support of her husband, even though he was Catholic. Mary was a wonderful artist and in her early life, loved to paint. She was a creative seamstress, quilter, baker and chief cook and bottle washer. She was well rounded and also loved to catch fish and camp. She had a dry sense of humor and was extremely particular and stubborn. You always knew exactly where she stood on any subject. Mary was a very private person and treasured her independence. Mary was a loving mother and will be sorely missed. She leaves behind her sister, Jean Ames; and her five children, Eddie (Liz) Kulbacki, Barbara (Dan) Paradiso, Marla (Michal) Marchant, Sharon Kulbacki, Debra Aldridge (Anthony Armstrong); along with 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward; son-in-law, Paul Allen Aldridge; great-grandson, Nathan Edward Lewis; grandson, Thomas Mario Lance; grandson, Ryan Edward Kulbacki; brother, Clarence Loren Burton, Jr.; father, Clarence Loren Burton; mother, Edith Freestone Burton; along with numerous aunts and uncles. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 2-3 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Gravesides services will then follow starting at 3 pm at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
