Martha Harris Hansen peacefully passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in Riverside, California. Martha was born in Grace, Idaho on September 14, 1917. Her parents were, Frank Albert Harris and Luby Patrina Nielsen. When Martha was 18 months old, her mother passed away and her father later married Edna Hansen Harris. Martha had 2 sisters and 5 brothers. When Martha was about 2 years old, she and her family moved to Cleveland, Idaho. Martha was raised on a large ranch and always said that "children that weren't raised in the country were really missing out in life." She loved life on the ranch and often talked about the many forms of entertainment she and her siblings enjoyed. They played games, sat around the radio and laid on blankets looking up at the moon and stars. She also loved taking care of the many animals on the farm. In her journal she wrote about the time that she and the entire family went to Preston, Idaho to see the Barnum and Bailey Circus. Martha was a member of the 4-H Club and won a first place ribbon in the canning category, at the age of 18. She later traveled by train to attend a large 4-H convention in Chicago, along with all of the other winners throughout the United States. Martha graduated from Thatcher High School. She then moved to Pocatello and dated, and later married, J. Albert Hansen on August, 8, 1939 in Longmont, Colorado. Martha had many jobs. She worked in a boarding house, worked for Kraft Cheese, and also the water dept. in Pocatello; among several other jobs. Her husband, known as "Bert", was a machinist for the gun plant in Pocatello and then was transferred to the Shipyards in Bremerton, WA during the Vietnam War. Martha and Bert loved to play pinochle and poker, they ballroom danced, played on a bowling league and loved to travel. After being married for 23 years, they had their one and only child, Caroline Sue, on March 5, 1962. Bert retired from the Shipyards in 1972 and they then moved back to Pocatello. Martha was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved being a member of the Pocatello 1st ward. After Bert passed away, November 12, 1989, Martha lived in Pocatello 10 more years and then she moved to Corona, CA to live close to Caroline, and her husband Vessie, and their family. She attended the Corona 2nd ward for many years. Martha had a fun loving and joyful spirit. She always had a good attitude even when she faced cancer twice. She was very independent and lived by herself until she was 91. She then moved in with Caroline, Vessie and her grandchildren. She would have been 100 years old on September 14, 2017 .
