Marlys E. Nichols

September 26, 1924 — July 25, 2012

Marlys Evelyn Nichols was at home, in Chubbuck, ID, when she went to be with her Lord on July 25, at the age of 87, following a short illness of aggressive b-cell cancer. She was surrounded by her family at the time of death and throughout the past 3 months.

She was born in Texas to David Robertson and Victoria Smith (aka Pauline Robertson) in September of 1924 and raised by her adoptive parents, Bert and Martha Nichols in California. She also lived in Roseburg Oregon before moving to Pocatello Idaho in 1999.

After working 15 years in the insurance field, she spent almost 30 years as a church administrative secretary. Her church service began in high school when she played the piano for the high school youth group at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, CA. She later went on to study the pipe organ and was active in her churches on the piano and organ. She served in San Lorenzo CA, Walnut Creek CA, Penn Valley CA, Valley Springs CA and in Roseburg OR. Her most recent service, part-time organist and leader of the Bench Warmers senior group, was at the Central Christian Church, Pocatello ID. She became interested in senior citizen's activities after the age of 55.

She moved to Pocatello to be near three of her daughters and their families. She is survived by children Marsha (Bud) Matlock, Fremont CA; Dianne (Sam) Harris, Valley Springs CA; Gregg (Candice) Stetzer, Newcastle CA; Joanne (Doug) Remer, Chubbuck ID; Rhonna (Steve) Millar, Pocatello ID and Cheryl (Phil) Balster, Chubbuck ID. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends.

Her family has heartfelt thanks for the comfort care provided by Access Home Care and Hospice, by all the wonderful and caring staff: Thank you ladies, each and every one of you. Also thanks from the heart to the Helping Hands caring staff that has provided hours of service over the past years.

This family has been so blessed by Marlys as a mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend. We will all certainly miss her more than words can express.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to a charity of your choice or http://www.campmagicalmoments.org, an organization that gives children with cancer an opportunity to have a fun outdoor camp experience.

Please share your condolences with Marlys' family.
