PLEASE NOT THE FUNERAL SERVICE LOCATION CHANGE TO COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME Our lily, our lamplight, our beloved, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Marlene Anderson Schwab, 81, returned to Heavenly Father on 2 August 2016, passing peacefully in her sleep, following many years of failing health, due to congestive heart failure and diabetes. We know that she was welcomed by loved ones, before falling into the waiting arms of her sweetheart, and eternal companion, Gene, never to be parted again. What a glorious reunion this must have been for the two of them! We can envision them singing and dancing in the heavenly clouds together after their long separation of 32 years. Marlene was born on 24 July 1935, at the home of her Grandmother Anderson, in Auburn, Wyoming to Orlando and Annetta Frandsen Anderson. She was the 5 th child in a family of nine, including 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Marlene loved growing up in Star Valley; where her heart was captured, and the Valley became an integral part of her soul. Star Valley was her place to reflect and be at peace. No matter how complicated life became, she always knew that if she could just make it to Star Valley, all would be well. The great strength that she always found there uplifted and sustained her, and helped her to put things in to perspective, thus allowing her to face her trials, big or small, with a quiet nobleness, and unique resolve. Marlene grew up on farms in Auburn and Thayne, Wyoming. She attended schools in, Auburn, Thayne, and Afton. She finished her schooling at Pocatello High School in Pocatello, Idaho. In the winter, she loved to sit in class and watch the skiers come down the mountain instead of focusing on her school work. One day she spotted a young man coming down the hill and turned to a classmate to tell her that she was going to marry him, even though she had no idea who he was. A short time later, Marlene met the skier, Gene Hale Schwab, through her sister Donnettas boyfriend, Phares Walker, who just happen to be one of Genes neighbors. Gene and Marlene were married on 5 August 1951 in the LDS church in Smoot, Wyoming. Many felt that she was too young to marry; she was 16; Gene was 21. Subsequently, they chose "Too Young" as their wedding song. They spent the first few months of their married life living in a tent that was pitched over a stream, while Gene finished his summer work up Greys River Canyon at the lumber tie camp. Marlene and Gene later settled in Pocatello, where three of their four children, Michael Gene, Danny Ray, and Lora Lee were born. Anna Marie was born in Soda Springs, as the family was living in Grace at that time of her birth. Marlene and Gene took their young family to the Idaho Falls Temple to be sealed as an eternal family on 4 January 1962. Gene passed away in December 1984. A year after, Genes passing, Marlene married Reed Hall. During their time together, they enjoyed traveling to California, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, and Georgia to visit family and friends, attend weddings, and exploring the surrounding areas. Marlene enjoyed getting to know Reeds grown daughters, Shannon, Shuanna, and Julie. She especially enjoyed the opportunity to help raise Reeds son John. Julie blessed them with 2 grandchildren, Robert and Jaclynn. Reed passed away in February 2014. Marlene loved the great outdoors, and had great reverence for the beauty and grandeur of the world God created. She loved to take the drive over Buckskin into Inkom each fall to bask in the beauty of the autumn leaves. She loved waterfalls, the ocean, and majesty of the Rocky Mountains, especially the Tetons. She strived to maintain a beautiful yard with flower and small vegetable gardens around her home. Doing yard work was a favorite pass time of hers. Other interests were music, quilting, all types of hand work, including embroidery and crochet. Her children and many of the nieces and grandchildren received beautiful handmade quilts for their new babies, especially designed for them. She worked as a sales associate at the Bon Marche for 19 years. Marlene loved to sing; singing in various Ward and Stake choirs over the years. She spent 10 years singing with the Pocatello Chapter of Sweet Adelines, under the direction of Morris Butler. Marlene even lodged a campaign to be a member of the board. She loved to bowl, her teams earning the WIBC League Championships for 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons. Recently, she even took up video bowling, thanks to her son Michael. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Marlene served as chorister in Primary, Sunday School, and Relief Society. She taught in Sunday School, Primary, and Relief Society. She served as Junior Sunday School Coordinator for several years, and later served as Relief Society secretary. Of her many Church callings, her favorite was teaching music to children. Oh how she loved to have the little children around her! Marlene loved family! She loved planning and hosting reunions, and loved spending time with her extended family. She was always ready with her camera to get both unexpected and posed pictures to capture each family moment. She had the opportunity to be present at the birth of each of her 10 grandchildren, as well as for the births of several of her great-grandchildren. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Orlando and Anneta Frandsen Anderson; twin brothers, Delwin and Darwin; a sister, Donnetta and husband Phares Walker; brother, Clyde; sisterin-law, Marlene Anderson; brother-in-law, Al Brock; son-in- law, Jeff Jones; and her beloved husband, Gene. She is survived by her siblings, Dewey (Linda) Anderson, Soda Springs, Idaho; LaMont Anderson, Auburn, California; Kay (JoAnn) Anderson, Chubbuck, Idaho; Jean Brock, Thornton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Carolyn Anderson, Twin Falls, Idaho; her children, Michael Gene (Jan) Schwab of Clovis, California; Anna Marie Jones, Norcross, Georgia; Danny Ray (Kelli) Schwab, Inkom, Idaho; and Lora Lee (Kimbal) Graff, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Grandchildren, David (Cindy) Jones, Jesse (Brandi) Jones, Brandie Kae (Stephen) Hill, Heather (Craig) Bradley, Stephanie Schwab, Mistie Morrison, Ashley (Cory) Goold, Blake (Harley) Schwab, Angela (Zach) Becerril, Brody Gene Schwab, Michael (Denise) Graff, Charles (Nicole) Graff, and Dawn (Sean) Helton; 33 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored. Marlene extends this simple prayer to her dear family and friends, "May your heart be filled with music that will cheer the hearts of men. May the good Lord bless and keep you, till we meet again." A viewing will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11 am at COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME with a viewing for one hour prior to the services. Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID 83204.
