POCATELLO - Mark Walton Vias, born October 16, 1945, went to live with his Heavenly Father on November 24, 2010.
Mark is the third child of Roy and Wilda (Walton) Vias. He grew up in the Grays Lake Valley and attended school there until the 8th grade. He then continued his education in Soda Springs, where he graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1964.
Mark went on to work for various area ranchers. He then met and married his sweetheart of 42 years, Merilyn, in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1968. He joined the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic in 1969. He served in Texas, Alaska, Arizona, Illinois, Utah, Nevada, and Thailand during Vietnam. He was honorable discharged in 1973. He returned to Wayan to help his dad on the farm and started working for the Idaho Transportation Department until 1986 when he transferred to American Falls. Due to ill health he was forced to retire in 1998.
Mark held various callings within the LDS church. He loved horses, ranching, and team roping. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mark is survived by his wife, Merilyn, two daughters, Amanda (Aaron) Edgley of Pocatello, Alison (Tyler) Croft of Kellogg, ID and four granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother and sister.
