Mark Hurlburt

October 29, 1950 — October 21, 2016

Mark Hurlburt, 65, passed away from pancreatic cancer at his home in Chubbuck, Idaho with his family by his side.
Mark was born in Rawlins, Wyoming to Edward and Nancy (Sjogren) Hurlburt. He graduated from Roy High School in 1969 and then obtained an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering from Weber State College.
As a third generation railroader, Mark started employment with the Union Pacific as a civil engineer in Salt Lake City, Utah and continued his career at Rock Springs, Wyoming; Omaha, Nebraska; Marysville, Kansas; and Kemmerer, Wyoming. In 1978 he transferred to Pocatello, Idaho as a locomotive engineer. He retired in 2010 with 40 plus years of employment with the Union Pacific Railroad.
Mark married Arlene Blass Hurlburt in 1986, and they had two sons, William "Kord" Hurlburt, Boise, Idaho and Marcus "Bo" Hurlburt, Pocatello, Idaho. Mark loved his family. Vacations were spent camping, 4-wheeling and enjoying all kinds of outdoor activities. He taught the boys hunting skills along with respect for guns and how to handle them safely. He taught them how to fix things, especially cars, but as times changed, they taught him how to find solutions on the internet. They always worked as a team.
Mark and Arlene had a cabin in Island Park on Totem Road where they enjoyed many friendships.
Mark was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pocatello and was a 39 year member of the Masonic Order belonging to the Portneuf #18, Pocatello, Idaho.
Mark is survived by his wife, Arlene; his two sons, Kord and Bo; brother, Lance (Mary) Hurlburt, Layton, Utah; sister, Nancy (Don) Allen, Bremerton, Washington; sister, Kay White, Lakewood, Washington; and sister-in-law, Carla Hurlburt, Lakewood, Washington.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary and Bruce Hurlburt.
A celebration of his life will be held in his honor on Sunday, October 30th, from 2-4PM at First United Methodist Church, 200 N. 15th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, Mark requested that donations be made to one of his favorite charities:
• Shriners Hospital (Salt Lake City, Utah)
• Eastern Idaho Food Bank
• First United Methodist Church (Pocatello)
• Salvation Army (Pocatello)
The Hurlburt family would like to thank Sagean and the staff of Encompass Hospice and Dr. Francisco and the staff at Portneuf Cancer Center for their caring service.
