On Saturday, Jan. 19 th , 2019, death claimed one of Pocatellos finest, Mrs. Mickie Murdock, nee Marjorie Coleen Morris, after a prolonged battle with dementia at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Pocatello, Idaho. Mickie was born Sept. 11, 1932 in Manhattan, Montana, the daughter of Grant Edwin Morris and Judith Marjorie Kaufman. She spent much of her childhood growing up in Minidoka, Idaho until her parents moved to Pocatello in the late 1930s. She graduated from Pocatello High School and, in 1950, married Joseph Clifford Kortum and had two sons: Joseph Grant (Sharon deceased; Aurora, Oregon), and Michael Dale (deceased). They were later divorced and she married Ray Robinson Swallow in 1953 and gave birth to two daughters: Marjorie Lucille Coulter (Pocatello), and Rebecca Marie Lete (Dan; American Falls). Ray brought two children into the marriage: Jeff Ney and Susan Mills. Ray was killed in an auto accident in 1970. In 1973 Mickie married Russell Gary Murdock who brought four children into the marriage: Kurt (Pam-deceased; Idaho Falls), Brian (Pocatello), Camille (Idaho Falls), and Bob (Hela; Ucon). Her brother, Roy Grant Morris and parents have preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Kay Dykman, her children Joseph Grant, Marjorie and Becky, and step-children as well as 17 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mickie was an active bowler at the Tough Guy Lanes in Pocatello, and worked for Tough Guy as an accounting secretary for many years. Over the years she got to do a lot of travel, going to various bowling tournaments with her husband Gary. Throughout the years she also lived in Overland Park, Kansas, Daytona Beach, Florida, Oakland, California, Visalia, California and Garden Grove, California as her husband Ray Swallow worked for the Kansas City and Oakland As baseball team as Farm Director and Director of Scouting. She even had the privilege of going out to dinner with Joseph DiMaggio once when he flew into Pocatello and asked her out as a thank you for what Ray had done for him in Oakland. A long list of baseball professionals were Mickie's friends and acquaintances . As a hobby Mickie loved to paint, both landscapes and objects and her works are on display in many homes. A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5-7 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Services will be on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 12 pm also at Colonial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
