Marian Overton

November 2, 1922 — September 22, 2010

POCATELLO-Marian H. Overton passed away September 22, 2010 at her home in Pocatello, Idaho surrounded by her children. Marian was born on November 2nd, 1922 in Dingle, Idaho to Hannah and John Woodruff Cook.

Marian grew up in Dingle and Montpelier, Idaho and lived for a year in Ogden, Utah where she worked at the Naval Ordnance plant during World War II. She was called home to help care for her younger siblings when her mother passed away at a young age.

Marian met Orval Overton, a Union Pacific fireman, during one of his layovers in Montpelier, Idaho. They were married in the Bannock County Court house August 1, 1947 and chose Pocatello to call their home. They raised two sons and two daughters.

Marian loved being a homemaker and mother and was an excellent cook. Her children and grandchildren were always greeted with homemade bread, cinnamon rolls and chocolate zucchini cake. She loved spending time with her family, especially picnics at Cherry Springs and Justice Park. Orval and Marian enjoyed traveling and had many enjoyable trips to California, Nevada and Wyoming to visit their children and grand-children. They also traveled to South Dakota, Colorado, Glacier National Park and enjoyed many trips to the Oregon coast, Yellowstone, Montana and Jackpot.

Marian is survived by her three children, Charles Kerry Overton (wife Caroline), Orval Kim Overton (wife Kathy) and Ellen Sue Riley (husband Bradley); 10 grand children, Sean Overton (Amber), Jennifer Welsh (Ron), Steve Overton (Allyson), Joe Overton, Rob Overton, Jesse Riley, Jamey Riley, Misty Riley, Cassidy Davies (Michelle) and Megan Davies (Chris) and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Patsy, Alice and Marie, and by her brothers Bob and Blaire. Marian was proceeded in death by her husband, Orval (Oct. 6, 2007) and her brother Woody Cook. The greatest tragedy in her life was when her daughter, Cindy Lee Davies, died of cancer March 24, 1995, leaving behind her husband, Tim and her two children Cassidy and Megan.

Marian was quiet and reserved with a warm smile and cute remarks, and will be sorely missed by her family.

A graveside service at Restlawn will be held for her and Orval on Saturday, September 25th, 2010 at 3PM. Orval will be buried alongside of Marian with military honors. The family will meet with friends and relatives for a celebration of life at Orval and Marian's residence located at 350 W. Griffith following the graveside service on September 25th, 2010 at 4 to 6PM. The family wishes to thank all the friends and relatives that looked in on Marian and Orval, Creekside Hospice and the many caring employees at Ashley Manor for their care of Marian and Orval over the past four years.
