Marian Dykman

January 13, 1925 — March 13, 2012

Marian Alice Krussman Dykman was born January 13, 1925, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Eric and Sagred Krussman. She passed away March 13, 2012. Marian was a straight A student all through school, attending Emerson Elementary School, Irving Jr High and Pocatello High School. Marian went through her 4 years of high school in 3 years, skipping a grade. Yes, she was very intelligent. Marian graduated from Pocatello High School in 1942, as the Salutatorian (Sorry Mom, that meant one B). During Marian's high school years, she met her high school sweetheart and future husband, Allen "Dale" Dykman. They met on a first date to American Falls Reservoir. Marian graduated from the University of Idaho in Moscow, where she was active in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She was the editor of the yearbook, Gem of the Mountain, while at University of Idaho. Her time in Moscow was always one of her fondest memories and proudest accomplishments. Marian and Dale got married after her junior year in College, on June 10, 1945, at the First Congregational Church in Pocatello, Idaho. Dale went to War in September, following their wedding. A special tribute to their love, was an unexpected find of their love letters that were written while they were apart during WWII, which were found after Dale had passed away. After the war Marian and Dale continued their education, in Moscow, and then to George Williams College in Chicago, where they both obtained their Masters degrees. Marian received her Masters degree in Dietetics. Their 3 children were born in 3 different cities, following Dale's career with the YMCA. Allen Dykman was born in Boise, Idaho, Diane Dykman Fullmer was born in Bellingham, Washington and Janice Dykman Clark was born in Salem, Oregon. Marian and Dale returned to Pocatello in 1959, when Dale joined the family business. Marian's most precious and prideful time of her life came from her children. There was never a mother more proud of her son and two daughters. Marian worked at Bannock Regional Medical Center as the Chief Dietician for over 20 years. She managed the department, with a sense of ethics and compassion for her fellow employees, that is rare. She was a leader in her time, as a career woman and a wonderful mother, a true role model. Her passion for dietetics followed her through her life, working part time at other medical institutions and nursing homes, writing special diets, and, taking every opportunity to give all of us in the family, what calories were in whatever we needed or didn't need to know! Marian loved to travel with Dale and their many close friends, and enjoyed many special trips with them. She loved to play bridge throughout her life, and enjoyed the association with the U Club Bridge Club at the Congregational Church. Marian was a woman of accomplishment, great beauty, and love to all who came in contact with her. Marian is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Dykman, her parents, her sister, Beatrice Ginzel, her brother, Harry Krussman, and a grandson, Garrett Clark. Marian is survived by her son Allen (Dixie) Dykman, and two daughters, Diane (Gary) Fullmer and Janice (Rodger) Clark. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Bryan (Natalie Dollinger) Dykman, Allison Dykman, Becky (Bill) Kelly, Debbie (Wade) Robertson, Maggie (Camron) McKinley and Hailey (Isaac) VanWart. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren; Kameron and Kayla Kelly, Ethan and Andrew Robertson, Garrett and Paige McKinley and Kyler VanWart. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, with Reverend Janie Gebhardt, officiating. Family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 PM prior to the services. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
