Marian Amonette Jensen, 90, passed away peacefully under the watchful and loving care of her Hospice and Grace Assisted Care providers on Wednesday, October 11th. Marian now joins her loving and devoted husband, Keith M. Jensen, who preceded her in death—her strongest and unwavering desire since Keith passed in 2019. Those who knew our Mom will remember her for her kindness, compassion, loyalty and devotion to our Savior and her family. She shared her gift for making all who met her feel better than before their visit knowing they were valued and loved. She was a talented and amazing builder of people. Marian was raised in rural Tennessee, the youngest of eleven children. She was adored by her brothers and sisters. At the beginning of high school, her widowed mother moved her youngest children to Rigby, Idaho where Marian graduated from high school at 16 years of age and began attending Ricks College in the Fall. While attending college a couple of years later, Marian met her future husband Keith because one of his best friends was dating her sister Edna who wouldn’t go out with him unless he brought a friend to take Marian with them… that sweet date quickly blossomed into a devoted friendship and love story that continues. Marian and Keith were married on September 22, 1952 in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple.
Marian always had confidence and faith which opened doors for her to do many amazing things in this life. She and Keith homesteaded a farm on the Northside of Rupert from sagebrush. Then, with five children they chose a new career together when Keith went back to school to become a funeral director. Together, they purchased and operated the funeral homes in Payette County known today as Shaffer-Jensen Funeral Homes. Later, Marian continued her “can-do” life by starting and operating many Diet Center Franchises around the United States. She closed-out her working career as a licensed realtor in the Pocatello area. Marian held numerous church responsibilities teaching early morning seminary and Sunday School along with leadership callings in Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. Marian and Keith served a full-time mission together in the Salt Lake Temple Square Mission. Marian was a devoted mother and grandmother. Every grandchild knew they were her “favorite” and that she would do anything for them. She will be missed especially by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by four of her five children – Janice Green (Richard), Teresa Marren Yamashita (Wes), Lisa Jensen DeMaiolo (Steve), Russell Jensen (Suzanne); 15 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Fredrick Landon Amonette and Minnie Lee Foster, her husband Keith Marlin Jensen, her daughter JoAnne Good, her son-in-laws Jason Good and Terry Marren, and her grandson Tyler Jensen.
A viewing will be held Friday, October 27th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Road, Chubbuck, Idaho. The funeral will be held Saturday, October 28th at 11 am with a viewing one hour before at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tyhee Stake Center, 12146 W. Tyhee Road.
