Henry M. Hanson "Mack" passed away on August 15th in Lava Hot Springs Idaho in an automobile accident; he was on his way home from visiting his wife Dorothy who lives in the Monte Vista Nursing Home in Pocatello.
Mack was born in Genesee Idaho on March 29th, 1934 where he lived with his Father Harry, Mother Nina, and his two sisters Jill and Polly until he was 10 years old.
In 1944 Nina moved with Mack, Jill, and Polly to be closer to the "I AM" Activity and attend classes at the Temple in Chicago. They also attended conclaves and classes in Mt. Shasta California.
Mack graduated from Hirsch High School on the south side of Chicago and entered college at Illinois Institute of Technology where he obtained a Degree in Civil Engineering in 1957 and became a Licensed Structural Engineer in 1963. He began working for the City of Chicago in 1957 and had a long career in public service until he retired from the Chief Right of Way position in 1994.
Mack met his wife Dorothy at the "I AM" Temple of Chicago and they were married on July 30th,1960. They had four children, Cheryl, Scott, Brenda, and John. They lived in homes on the South Side of Chicago, in the suburb of Hindsdale, and then back into the city limits–in the Beverly area– until 1995.
Through the years, after many summer vacations to the area, Mack and Dorothy bought a piece of property in Mount Shasta where they built a home and retired. His daughter Brenda and granddaughter Isabelle moved to Mount Shasta as well as daughter Cheryl for a year before marrying. He and Dorothy lived there until February of this year, when daughter Cheryl and her husband Rickey brought them to Idaho where his wife, Dorothy, could be placed in a nursing facility.
Mack was an avid athlete and played basketball until he was 75 years old. He had many trophies for his league sports including bowling, golfing, softball, and basketball. He was frequently the coach of his teams and encouraged sports with his sons; Scott played basketball in High School as well as John, who also played college ball. He loved hiking and took his family every year from Chicago to the Tetons for a two to four-week vacation, usually camping in Grand Teton Park and also traveling to the Mount Shasta area. He continued hiking in Mt. Shasta until a few years ago, having joined a hiking club, the Meanderers and also enjoyed cross-country skiing, and skating. Mack loved to sing, play the piano and the trumpet; upon retirement he joined the choir at the College of the Siskiyous in Weed, CA and sang his last program this past year before moving to Idaho.
Most importantly, Mack helped everyone; working just as much during his retirement as prior. Shortly after arriving in Mount Shasta in 1995 he spent weeks trekking around the Saint Germain Foundation property to find and later record at the County all their property corners. He repaired bridges on the Shasta Springs trails, helped renovate the "I AM" Reading Room of Mt. Shasta including tearing off and putting on a new roof, helped in the construction of the "I AM" Temple of Mt. Shasta, the "I AM" School of Mount Shasta, the "I AM" Residence of Mt. Shasta, his own home, and other projects on the Shasta Springs properties, and Reservoir. He was the one who brought everyone, who couldn't get out, a fresh Christmas tree cut from the woods, fixed their leaks, sprinklers, brought them groceries, fruit, peaches from an orchard an hour away, or moved their pianos, and other furniture as needed. Mack spent his last vacation just a few weeks ago at Shasta Springs in California, giving more service at the amphitheater and making sure the Reservoir was cleaned and running for future use. Whenever there was a need, Mack jumped in to lend his expertise, support or helping hand.
He will be missed by his friends, his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
