Lynn L Swanson

August 15, 1930 — June 8, 2022

Lynn L Swanson passed away peacefully in his home with his wife by his side on June 8, 2022. He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on August 15, 1930 to Theodore “Judge” and Minnie Swanson. He was raised on the Swanson ranch in Tyhee. He attended Tyhee Elementary, Hawthorne, and Poky High School. Lynn joined the Army at the age of 17. He served many tours overseas and served in the Korean War. He met the love of his life, Sachiko Yamanaka, while stationed in Japan. They were married on October 22, 1956 in Kobe, Japan.

Lynn learned the value of hard work at a young age on the farm. He served 13 years in the Army, transported prisoners to Leavenworth prison, started a rock quarry business in Monterey, Ca., and retired from the US Postal service here in Idaho after years of service.

He enjoyed spending time with his buddies hunting, fishing, drinking coffee and “shooting the bull”. He spent endless hours with his wife as she played the slots, shopped, and walked the mall, waiting with very little complaint. Lynn took great pride in his children but his grandchildren were the “Maggots” of his eye. He had funny nicknames for them and loved to tease and tickle them. Family meant everything to him and for years he cared for his three elderly aunts. He was a long-time member of the Japanese American Citizen League, a support to Wounded Warriors, the VFW, the Republican Party, and many other charities.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sachiko, his daughters Jody (Bob) Mullin of Gresham, Or., Trudy Swanson of Omaha, Ne, a son, Ted (Kimberly) Swanson of Pocatello, 10 grandchildren, and 11 ½ great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Minnie, siblings Arthur, John, Mabel, Bill, Milo, Florence, and Rosieanna, many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Lynn’s family would like to extend a thank you to wonderful neighbors and Inhabit Hospice Care nurses and aids that showed love and compassion to our parents.

A viewing will be held on Saturday June 25, 2022 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with a graveside to follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
