Lyda Lou Sakurada, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 5, 2009. She was born February 17, 1935 in Buhl, Idaho to Robert Lee and Verona (Hamp) Cox. Lyda graduated from Pocatello High School. After graduation she married Marvin I. Prescott and they had one son, Marvin. This marriage ended in divorced. She then married Shig Sakurada and they were blessed with three sons, Kevin, Kent, and Tracy and a daughter that passed away at birth. Shig passed away December 21, 1996. Lyda worked at Lamb Weston until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed her roll as a foster grandparent and her most enjoyable hobby was BINGO. Lyda truly enjoyed her family, children, their spouses, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Volunteering was in her nature and she helped coach for the Special Olympics. She is survived by her sons, Marvin Cox, Kevin, Kent, and Tracy Sakurada, all of Pocatello; two sisters, Roberta Smith, of Pocatello and Kay Carter, of The Dalles, OR; three brothers, Robin, Pingree, ID, Gary, and Terry Cox, both of Pocatello; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, parents and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, Pocatello. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
