Luman John Gilman was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on March 2, 1935. He lived there and in Baker, Oregon before moving to Pocatello, Idaho in 1951. Luman graduated from Pocatello High School in 1953 and was enlisted in the United States Army from January 1954 until January 1957.
He met Jerry Alyce Seibert in 1957 and married her that same fall. They were married for 65 years until Jerry’s passing on March 11, 2023.
Luman received his Bachelors Degree from Wayland Baptist College, and then his Masters and Doctorate from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a member of the Utah/Idaho Southern Baptist Convention for over 30 years, and served as President for 1 term.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, softball, basketball, racquetball, golfing and watching all sports. He was also a participant in the Senior Olympics as a racquetball player. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and fellowship with friends.
Luman was a mentor to many young pastors, spanning four decades. He was a faithful servant to God. He was always available to his family, friends, church, and community.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jerry Gilman, parents Don and Hazel Gilman brother Darrel Gilman, and son-in-law Lynn McClain.
Luman is survived by his daughter Julie McClain of Lavina, Montana; son Dane (Colleen) Gilman of Medical Lake, Washington; granddaughter Alessandra Fino of Medical Lake, Washington; grandson Antonio (Amber) Fino of Spokane, Washington; 3 great grandsons; brother Donald (Shirley) Gilman of Oregon City, Oregon; and sister Sandra Williams of Charleston, South Carolina.
Services for both Luman and Jerry Gilman will be held on June 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the Gate City Baptist Church, 500 W. Maple Street, Pocatello.
