Lucy "Doreen" Lyons Parrish Hatton

Doreen Parrish Hatton, 89, passed away on January 23, 2023.  

Lucy Doreen Lyons Parrish Hatton was born Nov 28, 1933 in Lethbridge, Alberta Canada. She was born the 6th child of 13 children. Her parents are George Edward Lyons and Ilene Betts Lyons.

She attended the University of Utah where she met her husband Max Fred Parrish. They married August 25, 1960 in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. Together they have six children. Melanie (Kevin) Anderson, Stephanie (John) Hendrichs, Allyson (Clifford) Hamilton, Leslie (Hal) Briggs, Jonathan (Allie) Parrish, and Mark (Linda) Parrish. She is the proud grandmother of 37 fabulous grandchildren and the great-grandmother of 17 marvelous great-grandchildren….and counting.

Doreen worked for several years as a legal secretary and then as a secretary at Beneficial Life Insurance. She enjoyed raising her children and seeing her grandchildren born. She loved macrame, scrapbooking and beading, but she especially loved writing. She is a published author of 2 books, Cactus Berries and Then Sings My Soul, along with various articles.

Max and Doreen lived on Parrish Lane, along with other members of the Parrish Family in Chubbuck, Idaho for several years. In 1977, they moved to 781 Fairway Drive where they lived until Max’s death in 1986.

Doreen loved to travel.  She has traveled all 50 US States, the 13 Provinces in Canada, and all continents except for Antarctica.

Following the death of her husband, Max, she moved to Salt Lake City. She later married Lynn Hatton on December 19, 1990. She lived with Lynn Hatton in West Valley City, Utah until his death on February 5, 2013. Doreen and Lynn loved exploring. They traveled several times to Alaska and loved the experiences.

Doreen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her entire life. She served in many callings and was particularly proud of her children and grandchildren that fulfilled missions.

Doreen's final days were spent happily at Birch Creek Assisted Living Center in Smithfield, Utah. She loved living there and her children would like to express their gratitude for taking such good care of her.

Doreen passed Monday, January 23, 2023 at the Cache Valley Hospital in Logan, Utah. She suffered a heart attack followed by a stroke on Sunday, January 22 and died on January 23. She is survived by a brother, George, a sister, Mary Louise, her six children, their spouses and beloved grandchildren and several other cherished family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2022 at the Chubbuck 1st Ward, 4775 Hawthorne Rd, Pocatello, ID. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2022 at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W Chubbuck Rd, Chubbuck, Idaho and starting at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow the service in the Mountain View Cemetery.
