Lucille Gertsch Wilks

Lucille Gertsch Wilks, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 3, 2016 in Blackfoot, Idaho.

She was born in Lanark, Idaho on July 13, 1925 to Smith Gertsch and Leona Bunn Gertsch.
She attended elementary and high school in Paris, Idaho.

She married Bernard Wilks on November 11, 1946 and their marriage was blessed with four (4) children that they raised in Paris, Idaho: Marsha Lou Gordon (Giege) Salt Lake City, Utah, Bradley C. Wilks (LaNette) Paris, Idaho, Sheila Rae Thalgott (Jim) Blackfoot, Idaho, Hal B. Wilks (Tracy) Paris, Idaho.

She loved baking cookies and breads. No one ever left her house without taking a cookie or loaf of bread. She was extremely talented at hand work, especially embroidering. She enjoyed embroidering pillow cases, dish towels, and dresser scarfs. She received several blue ribbons at the Bear Lake County Fairs and Eastern Idaho State Fair.

She was an active member of the LDS church where she served in many capacities, but her favorites were serving in the Relief Society Presidency and as librarian where she developed lasting and genuine friendships. She also served in the American Legion Auxiliary for several years. She was very patriotic and loved her country.

She is survived by her children, one sister, Beth (Keith) Hymas, Spanish Fork, Utah, 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents, one brother, Lyle J. Gertsch, and sister-in-law, Margaret Rich Gertsch.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the LDS Church in Paris, Idaho. A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the church and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will follow services in the Paris Cemetery.
