Louis Gene Mickey

Louis "Mick" Mickey Louis Gene Mickey, 55, passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019. Louis was a great man who knew how to be a true friend to others. He called a number of places home, from Key West, Florida to Pocatello, Idaho, and many others in between. In every one of these places, he made lifetime friends. These friends came from many walks of life. Mick saw other people as individuals to love. His sense of love and fellowship reflected his love for God and his desire to follow Him. Mick was born on July 1, 1964 in Key West, Florida. He loved and treasured his family and friends and spent a tremendous amount of time being with and serving those he loved. He showed great strength and resilience in his youth, and grew to be a successful skilled craftsman and businessman. His talents in painting and other aspects of the construction industry helped him to make a good living which allowed him to bless the lives of countless people. Mick gave freely of his time and resources to help others. Just to hear of someones need was often enough to cause him to spring into action to serve and lift his fellowman. Upon finding one local Pocatello resident struggling to finish the basement in his new home, Mick went to work volunteering his talents and his work ethic to complete the basement with higher quality craftsmanship than the main floor of the new home. Mick refused any payment for this service. He would give without asking for anything in return. Mick also had a gift for reaching out to friends and family at crucial times in their lives. He was often the encouraging voice to help those he loved to navigate the challenging crossroads in their lives. After a serious vehicle accident caused by the driver of another vehicle, Mick was left with serious permanent damage to his health that would result in years of excruciating pain and suffering. It was during these years that he made some of his greatest friends, loving and lifting others in spite of his own suffering. He changed the lives of many through the blessing of his friendship. One close friend was amazed at how many others from so many different places and different walks of life considered Mick to be their best friend. Mick was a devout Christian and he exemplified Jesus Christs ministry of love and compassion. He was an expert fisherman. He enjoyed deep sea fishing in the Florida Keys and off the coast of California and fished oceans, lakes, rivers, and streams all across America. In recent years, he spent a great deal of time fishing the Snake River in Southeastern Idaho. He was the most talented and successful fisherman in any group and would credit the Lord with his fishing success, saying, "Thank you, Jesus!" after every catch. He enthusiastically shared his fishing knowledge and expertise and any other knowledge he had to share with anyone who wanted to learn. Mick shared his testimony of Jesus Christ through his words and the way he loved and blessed the lives of others. He truly was a "fisher of men". Mick showed us how to live and taught us what this life is really all about. We will miss him and will never forget the profound impact this great man has had on so many of our lives. Mick is survived by his son, Louis Mickey and his grandchildren, Liam, Clara, and Taydence. He was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Brown Stevens and his father, Ross Leon Mickey. There will be no services held at this time.
