Lorraine O. Mecham

Lorraine O. Mecham, 84 a lifelong resident of Pocatello passed away on June 7, 2011 at Portneuf Medical Center after suffering a short illness.

Lorraine was born on March 22, 1927 to Albert Barnard and Elizabeth Herbst Olson in Groveland, Idaho. She attended school, first through eighth grades at Groveland and then graduated from Blackfoot High School. After graduation, she and Marge Denney went to Pocatello and landed jobs from Mountain Bell, later being transferred back to Blackfoot. Because of her friendship with Marge Denny and Donna Mecham, she met and then fell in love with Hubert Mecham. They were married on September 20, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were blesses with 60 years of happiness. To this union 3 children were born, Joyce Mecham (Danny) Stuart, Meridian, ID; Rod (Arlene) Mecham, Blackfoot, ID; and Brent (Pam) Mecham, Visalia, CA.

Mom stayed home for many years raising her children and caring for Dad. When she went to work at Ralston-Purina, Troy Parisian Laundry and later at the old St. Anthony Hospital which became Intermountain Health Care, first as a cook and then as a purchasing agent for the kitchen. She retired after 15 years.
Lorraine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life and held many positions, a Primary teacher, visiting teacher, and the callings she and Dad enjoyed most, Ward and Stake dance directors, which she loved and made many lifelong friends to this day…

Lorraine loved her flower beds, was a wonderful cook, and loved to camp with friends and family. She was a great lady.

Lorraine is survived by two sisters, Veora Belnap and Ruth Anderson; her three children, six grandchildren, Angela Gibson, Britton Stuart, Chad Stuart, Danika Haynie, Brianne Mecham, and Jesse Mecham; 11 great-grandchildren (with two more on the way) Megan Gibson, Amaia and Addison Stuart, Austin, Jeremy, Alexandra and Emma Stuart, Brooke, Tyler and Xander Haynie and Jayden Wheeler.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hubert Melvin Mecham and a brother, Darwin Olson.
