Lorenzo Galvan Miranda, Sr.

August 20, 1944 — October 21, 2023

We are sad to announce the passing of Lorenzo G Miranda Sr of Pocatello, Idaho. He died at the age of 79 on October 21, 2023. Lorenzo was surrounded by his loving wife and family after a short battle of complications due to a surgery.

Lorenzo was born August 20, 1944, in Fabens, Texas to Apolonio and Rafaela Galvan Miranda. He is 1 of 12 siblings.

He spent most of his early years working in the fields in Texas, California, and Idaho where he met his wife Jovita and then settled in Pocatello, Idaho.

On March 29, 1965, he married Jovita Rojas (Miranda). Together they had 2 daughters Rosanna (Gathon III) McGowan and Kathie (Isidoro Jr) Botello and 1 son Lorenzo Jr (Jennifer) Miranda.

He was employed at Union Pacific Railroad, and then at JR Simplot as a heavy equipment operator at the Gay Mine in Fort Hall, Idaho and then later to Smokey Canyon Mine retiring after 35 years of service.

He enjoyed the outdoors doing many things. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping. He and his wife spent countless miles on their razor in Idaho’s back country soaking in the views with their P.T.M.A club. He loved to travel near and far exploring new places with his wife along his side. He gave his children many fun and memorable vacations. Every year he took pride in his bountiful vegetable garden. It was highly organized and well maintained. He was always willing to give a helpful hand to anyone. From home improvements to fixing cars and caring for the neighbors. All you had to do was ask! He was a jack of all trades. If you couldn’t find him, he was probably at the casino.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus with the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Jovita and their children. Sisters: Basilisia (Nieves) Salas, Irene Serrano, Susie Miranda, Brother Ignacio (Esperanza) Miranda. 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: Encarnacion, Andres, Cuberto, Antonio, Julio and Paulito. Sisters: Canderlaria, Julia. Grandson: Michael Joseph Hernandez.
