Lonnie F. Nelson, 76, a dedicated husband, father, brother, and the proudest grandfather passed away at home on Saturday, April 20 in the comfort of his wife Shawna.
Lonnie enjoyed spending time on the golf course, fishing, watching his grandchildren play sports, and creating a beautiful yard for everyone to enjoy. He never hesitated to tell others how proud he was of his grandkids and their success. Lonnie and Shawna loved spending time in Arizona for 3 months every year getting to golf with their friends from Pocatello and most of all having the kids come down and play. Playing rounds of golf throughout the week with his friends Dan, Wally, Ken, and Glen as well as all the Monday senior men’s. Everyone that knew Lonnie knew he was a man of few words, however when he did speak it was well thought out, meaningful, and sincere.
Lonnie graduated from Highland High School in 1965 and enjoyed playing baseball. He enlisted with the Army National Guard and served for 6 years. In 1967 he enrolled at Idaho State University and graduated with a B.B.A. in 1972. Shortly after graduation he began working at the Railroad Credit Union and after 7 years moved to ISU Federal Credit Union as the CEO. Lonnie always told us he was going to retire at 60, and happily did so in 2007. During his professional career he held several volunteer positions including Pocatello chapter board, member of the Idaho Credit Union League board, Idaho Corporate Credit Union board, and a member of the Credit Union Executives Society. Lonnie was a proud member of the Pocatello Kiwanis Club, and selected CWI Credit Professionals “Boss of the Year”. He enjoyed his lifelong friendships with other CEO’s in the northwest which included, Allen, Brian, and Terry.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, and daughter, Nicole Manning. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shawna Nelson, daughter, Mindy Hall (Kevin Hall), grandchildren, Kade Hall, Karli Hall, Dylan Manning, and Nathan manning as well as multiple grand dogs that he loved hiking in the hills.
And he always told the kids before bed, “I have to go put the moon out”.
