Lola Merrill Carter

March 13, 1908 — March 15, 2012

One of Earths most gentle and kind human beings passed away in her home on Thursday, March 15, 2012 two days after her 104th Birthday.

Lola was born on March 13, 1908 in Bennington, Idaho. She was the daughter of Estella Ipsen Merrill and Ambrose Dunn Merrill.

Lola graduated from Montpelier High School. She worked as a cashier at Barrett's Clothing store and at Jones Market as a book-keeper in Montpelier, Idaho.

Lola was married May 02, 1928 to Fred B. Carter in Preston, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls temple on January 03, 1958.

Fred and Lola owned and operated Carter's Printing & Bookstore for a number of years where they enjoyed working side by side. After retiring from their Printing & Bookstore they bought a small farm in Fort Hall where they enjoyed working side by side maintaining their property and their garden.

She was an active member of the LDS church her entire life holding numerous positions within the church throughout the years. Lola and Fred both enjoyed working in various church positions and enjoyed working with their Native American neighbors in Fort Hall Branch.

Lola is survived by her Daughter, Betty Exeter; Son, Wayne B. Carter; Son and Daughter-in-law, James M. & Judy Carter; 12 Grandchildren, 24 Great-Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Lola was preceded in death by her husband Fred B. “Nick” Carter; he passed away on December 14, 1991. She had 3 brothers and 3 sisters who all preceded her in death.
