Lois Jane Williams Buchanan, 78, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 15, 2013. Lois was born on a farm near Salmon, Idaho on March 31, 1935. She was born to Alice (Locke) and Merton E. Williams. She had a 5-year-old brother, Leonard, at the time. The family moved to Pocatello, Idaho when Lois was a toddler. Lois was happy to have another brother, Tom arrive in 1939. Her par¬ents and Tom (Burneda) along with Leonard's wife (Janet) have preced¬ed her in death.
Lois attended schools in Pocatello, where some lifelong friendships were made. She loved her friends. In 1952 she met her future husband, Gail Buchanan while attending Poky High. After a failed attempt at elopement they finally married at age 16 and 17 on March 12, 1953. They were happily married until his death in 2012. Some say Lois was never quite the same after his death and died of a lonely heart.
To this marriage was born George Bradley in 1953 and Trudi Gail in 1957.
Lois considered herself fortunate to be a stay at home mother and homemaker for the first 25 years of her marriage raising her (at times) wonderful children. Gail became a skilled craftsman and they operated Buchanan Kitchen Sales as a team. Because of a chronic illness, they closed the business and became employed at Idaho State University. She worked in the Registrations and Admissions office and Gail at Maintenance and Operations. They ate a lot of lunches together and had some very nice times while working for the University. Gail's health continued to decline and they decided to retire together on the same day in 1996.
After retiring, they traveled in their 5th wheel and loved the Oregon sea shore. Whatever they did they were always holding hands and enjoying time together.
Lois has enjoyed her many friends. She also enjoyed going to dinner with her family and her brother, Leonard, They always laughed a lot. Lois had a smile and a laugh that was contagious. No matter what the circumstance, she always said "all you need is a sense of humor and you will get through it".
With some prior planning, Lois and Gail purchased a one level twin home that made it much easier in their later years to remain in their own home. She enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife activity on the river. She was so fortunate to have wonderful neighbors such as George and Carol Wise and others. Lois suffered with Congestive Heart failure after Gail's passing. With help of her loving neighbors and her family, whom she appreciated beyond words, she was able to die peacefully in her home which was very important to her.
Lois is survived by son, George Bradley (Pam), Wenatchee, WA, daughter, Trudi Gail (Jim) Morphey, Pocatello, grandson, Jake (Jen) Morphey, and a great granddaughter, Kalli Ann. She was preceded in death by her husband Gail, brother Tom and a grandson Skyler.
