Lisa Hofmann Mccoy

August 20, 1984 — September 27, 2023

Lisa Hofmann McCoy, 39, passed away on September 27, 2023.

Lisa “Lisa-poo” McCoy was born in Salt Lake City, UT on August 20, 1984.

In college at the University of Utah, she met the love of her life, her future husband and father of her children. She loved Matt with her whole being. They spent their time enjoying the outdoors, camping and playing a ridiculous amount of board games, their most favorite being Settlers of Catan. Together they built a beautiful life that took them to Omaha and Kansas City, before they eventually settled in Pocatello, where Matt began his career in orthodontics. Lisa was a dedicated wife and mother. They raised four beautiful children together.

Early in 2019, Lisa began experiencing symptoms of the disease that would later claim her life. For the next 4 years, she battled tirelessly with ALS, her body slowly failing and turning against her. Even as she experienced her darkest moments, Lisa charged ahead, always putting her family first and providing them with as much normalcy as she could. It was a long, difficult battle, one which she approached with positivity, dignity, humor, and humility.

Lisa was a lover of life. She loved to play games, and was quick to change the rules to keep things moving to get in one more round. She was a foodie. She loved holidays- decorating, baking, crafts, and traditions. She loved the outdoors, camping, and traveling in their motor home. Even through her disability, she managed to see new places, including recent trips to New York, Hawaii, Mexico and Disneyland. She would regularly burst into song, adapting lyrics to suit the situation at hand, and nailing every note along the way.

She was also a true animal lover, and rescued numerous creatures throughout her life. Her pets were spoiled, and as well loved as any animal could hope to be. She had endless affection for them, and they adored her right back.

More than anything, she loved her family. She was known for her goofy play time with her kids, her silly interpretations of songs and stories, and her ability to keep almost any conversation positive. All of her kids had fun nicknames, and she taught them to make funny faces from a young age. They were the light of her life. Every birthday and holiday was special and exciting. Playing and cuddling was the norm. Not being there for them was the most devastating part of her illness. She spent countless hours preparing photos, journals, letters and other keepsakes for their milestones.

Lisa leaves behind her adoring husband, Matt; their four children, Eleanor, Scarlett, Declan, and Adele; her siblings, Michael, Karen, and Julie; and their partners and children; and many extended family members, all of whom loved and adored her.

Lisa was selfless to her last moments. Her final wish was for people to share their memories and pictures as a tribute to her. These will be passed on to her children to keep her memory alive. Please take a few moments to leave a comment under the Tribute Wall tab above. Her family asks that you include The ALS Association in your annual donations.
