Leonard Lionel Marler

Leonard Lionel Marler, 87, peacefully returned home on March 3, 2018, to his loving Heavenly Father and into the arms of those who have been waiting for him. He left surrounded by family in his home in Pocatello, Idaho. Leonard was born June 17, 1930 in Pocatello, Idaho to Lionel Adolph Marler and Ethel Wanda Lish. He was the 6 th of 7 children. He grew up in Pocatello where he enjoyed spending time outdoors with his cousins and friends hiking, camping and fishing. He attended Emerson and Whittier Elementary Schools and Pocatello High School until he took an apprenticeship as a typesetter for the Idaho State Journal. While working as a typesetter, he served as a member of the National Guard. Following the start of the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. With a great love of country he wanted the opportunity to do more. While stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas he met the love of his life, Twila Newton. They married in Pocatello at his parents home on January 8, 1955, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple January 9, 1956. The family moved from Pocatello in 1968 and Leonard worked at the Pasadena Star News until 1971 when they moved their family to Las Vegas, NV to work for the Las Vegas Sun newspaper. North Las Vegas was where Leonard and Twila would spend the next 42 years raising 8 children in a strong and happy home. He enjoyed when the home was full of family and laughter. He was a funny, hardworking, loving father who raised his children to be honest, patriotic, and to love the Lord. Leonard enjoyed listening to old country music, was a talented artist, and loved traveling with family. He enjoyed and served faithfully in his many callings with his unwavering testimony in The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints. The calling he loved most was that of a temple worker in the Las Vegas Temple. He and his wife enjoyed time as Service Missionaries for the Pocatello Institute of Religion at Idaho State University. All those who encountered Leonard knew what he believed not by his words, but by his actions. Of all his many accomplishments his greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Twila Coylene Newton Marler; children, Landa York (Danny), Linda Pistone (Ted), Shan Marler, Tamala Ebarb (Charles), Kib Marler, Kish Marler (Dulcie), Tanya Houston (Travis) and Spring Marler; 20 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, who will always remember him with love. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ethel and Lionel; sisters, Clara, Ruth, and Venna; brothers, Leo, Glen and Ivan, as well as his son, Len Curtis Marler; son-in-law, David; grandson, Jason and great-grandson, Tanner. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 9, 2018 at 11 am at the LDS Church, 5425 S. Bannock Highway, Pocatello, ID, with a viewing one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
