Leona (Jenks) Hoots, 98, was born Nov. 5, 1911 in Weston, Idaho. She passed away on October 18, 2010, at a local facility. She was the oldest child of Wallace Albert and Izetta (Olsen) Jenks. The family homesteaded on 160 acres in Arbon Valley where she started school. They later moved to Tyhee when they lost their homestead and settled on five acres north of Pocatello, which is now Hawthorne Road, where she continued to attend Pocatello schools. She worked at various jobs in her life, including Kraft Cheese, and at ISU at Saga Foods as a cook in later years. She married Roy R. Hoots on April 4, 1929 in American Falls. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls temple in 1962. They raised three daughters in Pocatello: Donna, Eula, and Linda. Leona was active in the LDS Church throughout her life, holding several positions. She was a member of the DUP, qualifying for membership through all her great-grandparents. She was a talented, self-taught seamstress. She also enjoyed antiquing furniture and making slip covers. She was an expert quilter. She loved to read, especially histories and biographies. Leona was a wonderful cook. Her husband Roy always raised a large garden, from which she canned numerous jars of vegetables and fruits, filling their root cellar each fall. She was preceded in death by her husband; two daughters and their husbands, Donna and Milt Russell and Eula and Muir Pierpont. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Una Willes; five brothers Don, Parley, Ray, Orville and Max Jenks and a sister who died in infancy. Leona is survived by one daughter, Linda (Brent) Boodry; eight grandchildren, Jill (Steve) Watkins, Cindy (Dennis) Turner, Pocatello, ID, Julie (Kelly) Payne, Bloomington, ID, Warren (Margaret) Pierpont of Orem, Utah, Steven (Michelle) Boodry, Idaho Falls, ID, David (Amy) Boodry, Mesa, AZ, Bryan (Mindi) Boodry, Salmon, ID and Lisa (Ken) Climer, Blackfoot, ID. Also surviving are twenty-three great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, October 20, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service Thursday. The family wishes to thank Creekside Hospice and the staff of Quinn Meadows for their care and compassionate service during the last few weeks of her life.
