Leon Ray Cowan

October 26, 1939 — December 14, 2020

Leon Ray Cowan, age 81, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020 at his home.

He was born on October 26, 1939 in Killeen, Texas, to W.A. Cowan Sr. (Dub), and Dorothy Stansell Cowan.

He is preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Dawnese Foster and younger brother W.A. Cowan Jr.

Leon's beloved wife Virginia Cowan passed away in 2008 in Pocatello.
Leon Ray Cowan was the second of seven children. He is survived by his older brother Lewis, his sister Darline Cowan West both of Ingleside, TX; his younger brothers Robert (Connie) of Tiki Island, TX as well as David (Glenda) of Katy, TX.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Cheryl Cowan of Houston, TX.
Leon has three sons and one daughter. His sons include Leland Cowan (Teresa) of Cookeville, TN; Lyndon Cowan of Houston, TX, as well as Johnnie Cowan (Odelia) of Chubbuck, ID. Leon's daughter is Belinda Fletcher of Houston, TX.

In addition to his grown sons and daughter, Leon has enjoyed getting to know 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. With every birth he joked about another generation to corrupt, but his family always considered him one of our greatest blessings.

Leon was well known in the construction industry and made long term friends everywhere he traveled. He was known for fishing, hunting, and riding big Harley's. He introduced at least three generations to the great outdoors. He played hard and had a strong work ethic.

In 1986 Leon and his wife Virginia moved to the Pocatello/Chubbuck area and along with their son Leland and Debbie Cowan purchased the Tyhee Country Store and Pawn, just outside of Fort Hall. Not long afterwards, they expanded their business to include the Tyhee Enterprise, a convenience store close by.

For years Leon and Virginia were a beloved part of the community. In 2008 Leon retired from the pawn and convenience stores. The business he and Virginia established is still thriving and is owned by his son and daughter-in-law Johnnie and Odelia Cowan.

Leon lived, worked, and traveled all over the world. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by many.
