Leo Thomas Howard, 98, passed away early Saturday morning, September 17, 2016. He was born to Richard E. and Catherine Luker Howard on April 21, 1918 in Bountiful, Utah. Eight days later his eternal sweetheart, Faun Chilton, was born in Moroni, Utah. When Leo was 6 months old his family moved to Pocatello, ID. His family had dairy cattle and he grew up running a milk route for Howard Diary. Leo attended all his schooling in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School, the class of 1936. In high school he met his sweetheart, Faun Chilton. He served as junior class president and she was junior and senior class Secretary. They had many fun memories as high school sweethearts, and were married two years later on June 28, 1938. A beautiful baby boy was born to them three years later, but was to bless their home for 22 short months before he rejoined his Father in Heaven. Later, they were blessed with three daughters and two more sons. During WWII, Leo was in the U.S. Navy and was sent to the Puget Sound area and stationed on Indian island. After the war, Leo returned to Pocatello and started a carpenter apprenticeship and became an excellent finish carpenter. Leo built several beautiful homes in Pocatello. Later Leo joined Boise Cascade as a service manager. Faun and Leo also owned and operated Fauns Motel on North Main Street. Leo was a true family man and his hobbies were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never missed an event and he and Faun were avid fans. Leo was blessed with a sharp mind, a beautiful voice, and a great sense of humor. He had a beautiful smile that shines bright in the memories of all who knew and loved him. Leo had a great testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ and was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop of the Pocatello 3 rd Ward. He endeared himself to many as he served his ward. Leo was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Faun and his son, Kerry. He is also preceded by his parents; four siblings; and his in-laws. He is survived by his five children, Kaydene (Don) Gilbert, Kert (Louise) Howard, Kandie (Bruce) Brown, Keva (David) Pollard, all of Pocatello, ID and Kit (Cathy) Howard, Ogden, UT; 29 grandchildren; 75 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. We all loved him dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. LaVonne Mills for her tender care through our fathers life. We would also like to thank the staff at Quail Ridge Assisted Living Center where Leo enjoyed several years of friendship and activities. Also, we thank the staff at Gateway Transitional Care facility for attending to his every need the past three years.
