Lee Donald "Don" Hammond, 89, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the Chandler Regional Hospital. He was born August 10, 1927 in Pocatello, Idaho to Lehi Nephi Hammond and Faye Amelia Hoopes Hammond. He had an older brother, Dale, a younger sister, Beverly, and a sister, Ruth who died in childhood. His early years were spent in Pocatello. During his senior year he tested in the military for his GED then later Pocatello High School honored all those who served in World War II by sending them high school diplomas. Don began working for the Union Pacific Railroad when he was 16 years old. He returned to Union Pacific Railroad after the war and worked for them for 10 years. Don married Marilyn Potter, August 23, 1948 in Jackson, Wyoming. He was a member of the LDS church. Don had one son, Paul (Jill Welch) Hammond. Don was an accomplished entrepreneur. His diverse interests took him in many directions, he acquired a real estate license and was involved in many real estate transactions, and he was a founding member of KOA campgrounds and owned several of them. Marilyn's love for horses got Don involved in several horse and cattle operations through the years. He is survived by his son, Paul (Jill) Hammond; 5 grandchildren, Mindie (Chris) Huntington, Teddie (Matt) McClung, Brady (Kristy) Maughan, KC (Rachel) Hammond, Bobbie (Chad) Keehner; 13 great-grandchildren, Logan, Mackenzie, Autumn, Ryanne, Tyler, Hailey, Jett, Audra, Asher, Kater, Kali, Kashton, and Krew; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his mother and father; brother, Dale; and sister, Beverly. Military Honors and grave dedication will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5th Ave., Pocatello, ID 83204, with a visitation from 12 until 2 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello.
