Lawrence V. Bennett

d. June 13, 2018

Lawrence Vern Bennett, 89, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018. Lawrence was 3 rd of four siblings with Tom, Gean, and Delta. He was born May 18, 1929 in Virginia, Idaho. They were orphaned when their Mother Ila passed away in 1932 as well as Dad Lawrence in 1934. Vern was lucky to have been raised by his Aunt Millie and Uncle Sam L. Baguley and with a new brother Frank Baguley. He was driven, industrious, active and skittish. When startled he would jump up and shout, "Shut up"! On September 18, 1948 JoMarie Drake and Vern were married way too long. But they raised 3 children, a niece, many nephews, family members and a passel of grandchildren and great-grandchildren followed. In high school he worked for Park Price Motors learning about mechanics and working on the local Police cars. They asked if their cars could be souped-up like the model A coupe that had out run them the other night. That was Dads car. He said that only happened once, but he was smirking. Lawrence, known also as Vern, Larry, or Bennett, worked for UPRR and PFE for 43 years. He served as Railroad Union Representative for many years. At the same time he worked hard on his small 7 acre farm of horses, cows, pigs, chickens with too many cats and dogs. As a young boy he delivered newspapers from the Gun Plant to the old down town area. He eventually helped supervising the newbies in doing their collection routes while he was in high school. Over time he attested putting on over 2000 miles on his green bike. Vern joined the National Guard, serving 10 years. He also did State of Idaho safety inspections on vehicles after working all day He loved music, dancing, horses and playing his harmonica with his friends the Harmoniers. He also loved to learn new things including the organ. He always kept his neighbors and his family in mind when they were in need, or sit a bit when they were sick. He built both his home in Tyhee and his cabin in Island Park as money and time allowed. He was a self-made man as well. However, he credits many good teachers and people for their love, help and lessons learned. A Latter-day Saint, he lived brotherly love. A man of action with a definite opinion (when he thought you needed to hear the truth). His family and friends will miss him as his death has left an irreplaceable hole. Good Ride Cowboy! Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10 am at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, ID. Burial will take place at the Cambridge Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Pocatello Animal Shelter or a charity of your choice. Thank you for your love and caring.
