LaVon Whiting Maiben, 91, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015 at her home. LaVon was born on August 26, 1923 in Mapleton, Utah to George and Hazel Whiting. In 1928, her father passed away and in 1935 the family moved to Springville, Utah. In 1936, they then moved to Provo, Utah. She graduated from Provo High School in 1941 and attended Brigham Young University. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at the Geneva Steel Plant. First, she worked in the Engineering Department, and then in the legal department. In 1945, she returned to Brigham Young University. She worked as an accountant in the Treasurers Office while attending college. LaVon married Louis Golden Maiben in the Salt Lake Temple in September of 1946. In 1947, she went to work again at the Geneva Steel Plant as a secretary and in 1948 she worked as a Secretary at the Department of Utilities in Provo, Utah. In 1950, she and Louis moved to Rawlins, WY, in 1954 to Byron, in 1958 to Wheatland, and in 1962 to Casper, WY. She taught piano for many years and played the organ for the LDS Church, the Greek Orthodox Church and the Christ United Methodist Church. LaVon is survived by two daughters, Mariette Estabrook of Dallas, Texas, and Kathryn Maiben of Pocatello, Idaho; 6 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. At her request, graveside services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Evergreen Cemetery, 1997 South 400 East Springville, Utah 84663 Arrangements are under the care of Colonial Funeral Home 2005 S. 4 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83201, 208-233-1500.
