Laverna Alldredge Zohner

July 17, 1936 — December 5, 2020

Laverna Alldredge Zohner passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on December 5, 2020. She was blessed to have an additional two years after being diagnosed with ampullary biliary cancer.

She was born July 17, 1936 to Irvin and Dorothy Alldredge in St. George, Utah and was the 5th of 9 children. She graduated from Dixie High School in 1954 and enjoyed attending class reunions up until the last two years. She attended college classes at Dixie College "just for fun," while she waited for her sweetheart to return from his LDS church mission.

She married Dahl Lemmon Zohner on September 7, 1956 in the St. George LDS Temple. They started their life together in Logan, Utah. They moved from there to Ely, Nevada; Elko, Nevada; Moab, Utah; and finally, Pocatello, Idaho.

It was always her deepest desire to have twelve children and she devoted her whole life to them. She was always there for us. Home just wasn't home without her. Her calm, even, optimistic temperament blessed our lives immeasurably!

She not only spent twenty-nine years in the baby stage with her own children, she also cared for her grandchildren for another thirteen years, so that their parents could go to work and college. That is 42 years of diaper changing!!

She managed to find time for her many talents. She loved to draw. She was an amateur photographer, always taking pictures of her family. She sewed many of her children's clothes. She also wanted to keep her mind active and was very good at word puzzles, crosswords, and playing games. She was an expert at correcting our school papers and teaching us correct English. Everyone looked forward to the birthday cards and two-dollar bills she sent every member of the family on every birthday, even finishing those for this December.

She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. At fifteen, she went to Mexico with her high school class. A big family road trip was taken in 1979 all the way to New York and back. Other memorable trips included Minnesota, Nauvoo, Alaska, England, Scotland and Puerto Rico. She even got her land-loving husband to take her on a cruise to the Caribbean Islands and another along the Alaskan Coastline.

After she was in her fifties she learned to ski, rafted down rivers, loved square dancing with her sweetheart, jumped on the trampoline with kids and grandkids, and even went parasailing over the ocean. She was willing to try anything. In her words, her children kept her young.

She was an active member of The Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was grateful for her pioneer heritage and enjoyed all the friendships she gained there.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She especially enjoyed the calling she was able to share with Dahl serving in the nursery. She also loved the primary children in her most recent calling as co-teacher with her daughter, Lynae. She loved the scriptures and was found studying them often, even in Spanish. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the happiness it brought to her life. She was always sharing her hope that each of her children and grandchildren would find that same happiness. Her greatest joy was her family!
