Laura Lee Haycock

d. April 4, 2015

Laura Haycock, 56, of Pocatello, passed away at home surrounded by her family on April 4, 2015, following an illness. Laura was born on December 12, 1958, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Lealen Blain and Dorothy Collard. The family later moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Laura graduated from Mitchell High School in 1976. Laura married Jack Haycock on May 4, 1978, in the Manti LDS Temple. They resided in Provo, Utah; Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho; Boise, Idaho; and Pocatello. They have four children: Kristi (Gaven) Johnson of Payson, Utah; Cindi (Jedidiah) Petersen of Chubbuck; Michael (Laura) of Rigby; and Jeffrey, of Pocatello. Laura was incredibly creative and loved crafts. She loved to scrapbook, paint, refinish furniture, make cards, write poetry and garden. She loved to decorate and her house was always warm and inviting. Laura loved to sing and was always singing silly songs that her grandchildren loved. Laura and her daughter Cindi operated Handcast Treasures for the last six years, making hundreds of hand castings for children and families. Laura loved this work and the families she served. Lauras greatest joy came from her children and her grandchildren. She loved to think of fun things to do with her family and created a lifetime of loving memories for them to cherish. Laura was a great example of service, kindness, selflessness, hard work, courage and love. Laura was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings and was currently serving as First Counselor in the Pocatello Stake Primary Presidency. Her favorite calling was leading the music in Primary and teaching the children songs about the Savior. In July 2013, Lauras legs became paralyzed and she was diagnosed with Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO or Devics disease), an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks the spinal cord and optic nerve. Her spinal cord was severely damaged by the disease and she was left paralyzed from the chest down. Although she was hospitalized for months, Laura never complained and fought her disease bravely. Through it all she never gave up and continued to fight even after she had a stroke. After her courageous battle, Heavenly Father called her home. A special thanks to Lauras daily caregiver, Ellen Ririe, RN, and also to her other caregivers, Kathy Coffin, Carrie Scott, RN, Shanna Thomas and Mallory Nielson Mitton. Thanks to all of Lauras caring doctors, especially: Bradley Burton, MD; Steven Krawtz, MD; Peter Jones, MD; Robert Jones, MD; Robert Kennedy, MD; and the staff and doctors at Portneuf Medical Center, especially Krista Andersen-Harris, DO, and James Hawkes, MD. Thanks also to the doctors, therapists, and staff at the University of Utah Medical Center, especially Jeffrey Rosenbluth, MD, and L. Dana DeWitt, MD. Also thanks to Lauras longtime rheumatologists, Craig Scoville, MD, of Idaho Falls, and Francis Dega, MD, of Boise. Thanks to Encompass Home Health and Hospice. Laura is survived by her husband, their four children and eight grandchildren: Brylee, Kamdyn, Brindyn, Lincoln and Mya Johnson of Payson, Utah; Carden and Gannen Petersen of Chubbuck, and Cailin Haycock of Rigby; by her parents, Blain and Dorothy Collard, and her sisters, Kathy (Craig) Hiatt and Lyn (Chris) Leach, all of Payson, Utah. She was preceded in death by her sister Karen.
