Chubbuck

Laura Beth Jans, age 65, passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was born in Skokie, Illinois, on May 5, 1959, to Joseph & Nina Jans. Laura’s health had been declining over the last few years, and she finally succumbed to her illness in the early morning of February 13, 2025, in Chubbuck, Idaho.

Born and raised in Skokie, Illinois, with her 2 brothers and 2 sisters through the 60s and 70s, she developed an early passion for cosmetics, animals, and nature. Laura was always a talented artist and began cutting her siblings' hair at the age of 5, leading her to a lifelong career in the beauty industry.

In the late 70s, while visiting family in California, she met Marshall Rossiter. The rest is history, as they say. Laura and Marshall went on to marry while living in California, then later divorced. They had their son Tim while Marshall finished his service in the Navy. They then moved to Idaho in the early 80s, where Kristy was born. From there, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where she built her life. She had beautiful homes and gardens, surrounded by many friends and people who loved her. She loved being close to her grandchildren, Sebastian, Sarai, and Sammie, and would often spend time babysitting and sharing her love for animals and birds with them. In 2012, she moved from Utah to Oregon to be close to her grandchildren Violet and Timmy Jr. She was passionate about being there for her young grandchildren and teaching them about all the little things, including feeding the birds and squirrels. After spending time in Oregon and Washington, she moved once more, following Tim and his family to Chubbuck, Idaho. There, she would be close to two additional grandchildren, Matthew and Ely. She loved and was so proud of every one of her grandchildren.

Laura was a fantastic makeup artist and skin care specialist. She spent the majority of her career in cosmetics sharing her passion for beauty and skin care knowledge. She was incredibly talented and creative in her artistic expression with makeup. Laura was known as a skincare guru and loved helping others correctly care for their skin and address skincare concerns. She was an Instructise de Beaute with an amazing touch while giving the most relaxing facials. She knew exactly how to educate others on how to use these techniques at home. She was truly passionate about encouraging others to care for themselves. She won awards and was recognized for her amazing talents in the beauty industry throughout her career.

She loved botanical gardens as well as planning and designing landscapes with beautiful gardens. She knew how to design a garden to always have something in bloom throughout each season. Her home was always full of beautiful flowers and unique house plants. She enjoyed taking garden walks each morning to see the spring flowers popping up and monitoring her garden's progress through the summer.

Laura had a talent for interior design. She took a professional interior painting class in Florida and could faux paint wood grain and the look of marble. The colors in her home would change with the seasons, using her chic decor and elegant taste. Paints, markers, and other various art supplies were always available when spending time and sharing her love of painting and drawing with her family.

Laura was an animal lover and bird-watching enthusiast. She always had at least one dog. She got her love for dogs from her dad, who trained German Shepherds. She, however, always kept little dogs, such as small poodles and chihuahuas. Over the years, she raised rabbits and even worked with a cat rescue. Her greatest passion was feeding birds. It was a way she honored the memory of her mom. At one point, she worked at a wild bird center just for fun and learned a great deal about wild birds. She kept a variety of bird feeders to feed different types of birds, including a redtail hawk that fed on the wild birds at her feeders. She also had a love of horses and often went horseback riding. Her favorite breed was Clydesdale horses, and she was excited about the Kentucky Derby each year.

Laura is survived by her children, Tim (Daiane) Rossiter and Kristy (Jeff) Hayek; grandchildren, Sebastian, Sarai, Sammie Soto, Thomas, Berkley Hayek, Violet, Timmy Jr, Matthew, and Ely Rossiter; ex-husband, Marshall Rossiter; twin brother, Steven Jans and sister, Kathleen Jans; as well as many nieces and nephews, Jesse, Tony, Bridget, Ki-Jana, Ryan, Jack, Amy, Andrew, Steven Jr, and Kristin; and great nieces and nephews, Ash, Halley, Corey, Hailey, Jackson, Teagan, Melody, Lyla, Mackenzie, Travis, Carolyn, Ellie, and Steven III.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jans; brother, Joe Jans; and her parents, Joseph and Nina Jans.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City, Utah.
