Larry Jack Ames, age 81, of Pocatello, ID passed away in his home with his wife by his side on May 7, 2024. Larry was born August 27, 1942 in Pocatello and was raised on his family’s poultry farm “Home of Mel-Ru Eggs” with his siblings and parents, Melvin and Ruby Ames.
He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1960 and married Linda Mae Lenon on June 3, 1966. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple with their son Todd on June 3, 1976.
Larry started working at Rowlands Dairy in 1960 and continued with Meadowgold Dairy until his retirement after 45 years of service. He was known and recognized all over the area and was arguably the best milkman in Pocatello. At the age of 17, he pursued his creative passion and became a talented taxidermist. Throughout his life he appreciated the beauty of the outdoors and God’s creatures and was a skilled hunter and sportsman. Mountainside Creations was the resulting business for his family’s ceramic and taxidermy talents. He owned and operated his business for almost 60 years.
After losing his wife of 41 years in 2008, our family was doubly blessed when Larry married his devoted, sweet wife LaRae Olson in the Twin Falls Idaho Temple on July 3, 2015.
Larry has enjoyed a beautiful life of hard work, love for his family, and for his Savior, Jesus Christ. His membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints became a foundational part of his life.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ruby Ames, his sister, June Ellsworth, brothers, Cecil Ames, Corwin Ames (Rosemary), and Daniel Ames.
He is survived by his loving wife, LaRae Ames of Pocatello, ID, his son Todd (Charissa) Ames of Twin Falls, ID, extended children Dave (Becky) Winans of Draper, UT, Mike (Lisa) Winans of Middleton, ID, Michelle (Rob) Rudebusch of Castlerock, CO and grandchildren; Dallin Ames, Julia Ames, Nathan Ames and Kieraly Ames of Twin Falls, ID as well as Alex Winans, Nik Winans, and Meggin Winans of Draper, UT, Ian Winans of Holloman AFB, Abby (Josh) Eberhard of Tucson, AZ, Lukas Rudebusch and Haylee Rudebusch of Castlerock, CO.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Enhabit Home Health care services (especially Milissa) for their tender care for Larry and the Relief Society of the Caldwell Park Ward for their kindness and service.
