Larry Edward Holloway

December 14, 1948 — May 4, 2017

Larry Edward Holloway, 68, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on May 4th, 2017. Born on December 14th, 1948 in Burley, Idaho, Larry was the third of six children born to Edward and Esther Holloway. Larry spent his early years in Oregon and Washington before they relocated to Buhl, Idaho. Throughout his youth he participated in baseball and football, worked on various farms, and spent much of his time hunting and fishing. Even as a young man, Larry worked hard for everything he had, including his prized '55 Chevy Belair. He thoroughly enjoyed the rambunctious lifestyle of a 1960's youth, while he and his friends benefited from a unique relationship with local law enforcement. He graduated from Buhl High School in 1967, where he and Mary Meyers had been acquaintances. The two began dating after graduation and instantly fell in love. Mary knew that she wanted to marry him on their first outing.

Larry enlisted in the United States Army in 1969. He trained at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Walters, Texas, then later transferred to Fort Gordon, Georgia to become a communication specialist. On March 28th, 1970, he married the love of his life in Elko, Nevada, and nine days later left to honorably serve our country in Vietnam. The newlyweds were apart for seven months before reconnecting for their honeymoon in Hawaii while Larry was on R&R leave. In March of 1971, he was honorably discharged as a combat veteran, and returned to Idaho to begin his new life.

Larry and Mary went on to have four children, and after several moves they made Pocatello their family home. Larry was a dedicated and well-known local business man for over 30 years and amassed a loyal following. He was loved and respected for his kind heart and dedication to the community. He was incredibly selfless and always put others first, taking pride in making others happy. One of his favorite past times was cooking for family and friends. In his later years, he became an avid gun enthusiast and took great pride in his collection. Larry enjoyed fishing trips to Alaska, his boat, hunting, target shooting, the outdoors, his children, and being Papa to his seven grandchildren.

Larry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; four children, Amy (Joe) of Pocatello, ID, Joshua (Morgan) of Salmon, ID, Jessica (Robert) of Flagstaff, AZ, and Cara (Chad) of Marietta, OH; seven grandchildren, Mailee, Connor, Sara, Andre, Drake, Sebastian, and Sawyer; siblings Patsy Dell, Gary Holloway, Connie Crumrine, and Jeanne Holloway; and many more beloved family members.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Esther; mother and father-in-law, John and Sarah Meyers; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Richard Roane; and best friend George Willard.

Services will be held at Wilks Funeral Home in Chubbuck, ID, on Friday, May 12th at 10 a.m. Viewings will be held for family and friends on Thursday, May 11th from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at West End Cemetery in Buhl, ID at 4p.m., where he will be laid to rest with military rights and a toast in his honor.
