Lacey Jo Hollifield Murdock

Lacey Hollifield Murdock, passed away on September 17, 2020 at her home in Pocatello. Her passing was due to complications from Lupus which she had fought courageously for many, many years. Lacey tried a multitude of treatments, some with terrible side affects, but she endured these for hope of recovery. Lacey wanted life and was willing to take on all options despite the pain. At the very last when all medical options were exhausted Lacey decided to go home to say goodbye to family and friends. During these last days of life, she had a constant stream of visitors and her husband Trevor was continuously at her side. Lacey realized her goal of saying goodbye to everyone. She was 38. Lacey was born in Twin Falls on January 6, 1982. Within hours of her birth she became the child of Terri and Joe Hollifield. On that snowy ride home, she was in the company of a mother who would care for her and would be with her through every step of her life and a father who would always be there for support and guidance. Although adopted, Lacey always considered Terri and Joe to be Mom and Dad. Lacey was also blessed with the love and support of caring step-parents Robert Richway, Nolene and Amy Hollifield. When Joe and Terri divorced Lacey gained a step-dad, Robert Richway. She got to know Roberts extended family back east and remained in contact with some of them through the rest of her life. Likewise, when Joe married Nolene she gained two step-brothers and a step-sister, Daniel, Matt, and Monica. Later when Joe married Amy, she gained another friend who happened to be a step-mom. Lacey knew she was adopted from an early age. When she was 18 her family helped her locate her biological parents. Lacey was very interested in having a relationship with them both, visiting frequently. In the process she met two more half siblings. It seemed that Laceys goal was to collect as many family and friends as possible and to hold onto them. She did that. Clearly Lacey was never lacking for people who cared for her or people she cared for. Two more to be added to that list were her God Mother, Jude Ann Flake, and her Uncle Therald. Lacey spent many hours on the phone sharing her lifes secrets with Jude. Jude was her confidant. With Therald, whom she became close to in her teenage years and during her early marriage, she spent many hours talking about everything and anything. Lacey attended Chubbuck Elementary, Franklin Jr. High, Pocatello High, and the New Horizons School. She was proud of her accomplishment at New Horizons as the yearbook editor, and the social events she organized. After receiving her diploma, she went on to attend ISU. Later she earned a CNA certificate and proudly practiced as a nursing assistant. Through the CNA work Lacey developed a lifelong interest in medicine and because extremely knowledgeable, especially about Lupus. Because her extensive research on the subject she was often more knowledgeable about Lupus than many of her physicians. Lacey loved boating and fishing with Joe at Palisades Reservoir and Henrys Lake. She enjoyed trap shooting, riding the snow machine trails in Island Park, and riding on the back of Dads Harley. Lacey got to do a bit of travel with both sets of parents. Some of it included ocean scuba diving and trips to Hawaii. On these trips Lacey developed a love for the ocean. Shortly after Laceys 21st birthday she visited with a friend, Lisa Bunce, while Lisa shot pool on the local billiard league. She spotted Trevor as he spotted her. What was going to be a short visit turned into the beginning of a lifelong romance. The rest is history and they were married in 2004. Shortly after the marriage Lacey and Trevor were blessed with their sweet, beautiful, and intelligent child, Sierra. From then on Trevor and Sierra were Laceys everything. Lacey had many interests and abilities. She loved dancing. While growing up she was enrolled in many dance programs and did many performances. At ISU she was a lead member for the ball room dance club and assisted the instructors in teaching classes. Lacey was also an adventurous cook. She never cooked the same dish the same way twice. To say she was creative is an understatement. She enjoyed testing out her creations on Terri, Robert, and Joe and later on, Trevor and Sierra. She entered online cooking competitions and she is still there on YouTube. Lacey was also involved in many types of crafts, especially if they had a Halloween theme and especially if she could work in skull decorations. She liked skulls so much that they are a permanent fixture in her house. Lacey was inventive in many areas, loved meeting people, helped in charitable causes, and making her own rules. Lacey was intimidated by very little. She would tackle tasks or situations fearlessly. She had never worried about failure. If something needed to be done, she would do it and if someone was being mistreated, she would be on it defending the underdog. Experiencing all that life could offer was important to Lacey, and she did that in spite of frequent and tremendous pain. Lacey had a big heart. She was always attracted to others who were hurting and in need, whether human or animal. She would find ways to help, would share what she had, and would forgive when wronged. She was Gods beautiful gift to us all. Lacey is survived by her daughter, Sierra Murdock; husband, Trevor Murdock; mother, Terri Richway (Robert); father, Joe Hollifield (Amy); step-mother, Nolene Hollifield; step-brother, Daniel; Godmother, Jude Ann Flake (Gary); and many loving pets. Lacey is preceded in death by her uncle, Therald; and step siblings, Matt, and Monica. The family who like to express their thanks to physicians Todd Gillespie and Clay Baker, both of whom helped her through her difficult journey, and the staff at Idaho Hyperbarics for their caring assistance. They would also like to thank David Moore for his compassionate care and concern for Lacey in her last days. Laceys Celebration of Life will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave. Pocatello, ID on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 2:00 PM for family and friends. Face Masks and Social Distancing will be required.
