Lewis Duane Harmon, 76, of Pocatello, passed away peacefully September 11, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Duane was born May 26, 1943 in Gooding, Idaho to Lewis and Elva (Jenkins) Harmon. He attended Hazelton Elementary and Valley High School. In 1962 he spent two years in England serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central British Mission. In 1966 Duane graduated from Ricks College with an Associate degree in Agronomy and a minor in Botany. He graduated in 1969 from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in Botany and a minor in Chemistry. In 1978 he graduated with a masters in Education Administration from BYU. Duane had a successful career as a seminary teacher working for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church Education System. He began teaching in Burley, Idaho, then moved to Pocatello where he taught seminary at Highland and Pocatello High and Irving, Hawthorne, Alameda, and Franklin Junior High Schools. After 29 years of teaching seminary, Duane spent the last ten years of his career in the Church Education Systems area office. He married his eternal companion, Connie Barley, on November 17, 1967 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They had six children, Brian (Cheryl) Harmon of Caldwell, Lisa (Doug) Whiting of Chubbuck, Richard (Holly) Harmon of Inkom, Brent (Mikel) Harmon of Chubbuck, Jana (David) Richards of Ammon, and Jeffrey Harmon. Duane was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings with Gospel Doctrine teacher and Bulletin Specialist being his favorites. He was very loved by his family and respected by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce (Tom) Jackson; and son, Jeffrey. Duane is survived by his beloved wife; five children; 17 grandchildren, Jen, Jeff, Amber, Jessica, Alyssa, Trey, Kaytlin, Sarah, Kalianne, BreAnna, Marcus, Kenna, Macy, Calan, Kamden, Kailey, and Bridger; 3 great-grandchildren, Ellie, Lennon, and Rowan; sister, Rose (Gary) Kincaid of Paul and brother, Norman Harmon of Hazelton; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Tyhee Stake Center, 12146 West Tyhee Road, Pocatello, Idaho, with a viewing from 9:30-10:30 am prior. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 1520 S. 5 th Ave. Pocatello, Idaho 83204.
