Konner David Long, "fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith." Konner passed from this life, at age 17, from the debilitating effects of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his parents, Kristan and Kimberli Long, his siblings, Jaden, Makenzie, and Jaxson, and grandparents, Ben and Annette Speelmon, and Sharon Long. The overwhelming display of love, affection, and support of his friends and neighbors are an illustration of the far reaching influence of this young man's abbreviated life. His kind demeanor, obedient spirit, and burning testimony of truth will resonate for years in the hearts and memories of all who knew him. His body was small, but he had the spirit of a giant.
Konner was blessed with a competitive spirit and was driven to achieve as much as he could while he was here. Konner was an excellent student and excelled academically. He had a thirst for knowledge, and sought for greater learning, and understanding. He was an Eagle Scout and earned over 70 merit badges. He enjoyed camping, learning new things, and the beauty found in nature. His favorite merit badge was Bird Study. As Konner grew and matured, he acquired a love of expensive and exotic cars. He could readily identify features, options, and performance characteristics of these incredible machines. He had several opportunities to ride in, and experience the thrill of these wonderful cars, thanks to the love and kindness of local automobile owners and friends.
Konner had a special bond with his younger brother, Jaxson, who also suffers with DMD. His desire to teach, and mentor his brother was a huge motivator and sealed a brotherly relationship that will last forever. Even as Konner approached the end, he was thinking of ways to help and bless his little brother.
Konner sought out other ways to serve. He mastered the skills necessary to "index" family history records, and even became an arbitrator of other peoples indexing efforts. Over 15,000 records were entered and double checked with the keystrokes of his frail, little hands.
Konner was generally quiet and reserved in his manor. Despite this character trait, he was blessed with a pack of good friends that played games, went on scouting adventures, offered service, and lifted each other to a higher level as a result. He sought out an online video gaming group called LDS Gamers to avoid crude, inappropriate, and crass online conversations, and expanded his circle of friends even further. His desire to be good was reflected in every part of his life.
