Kirk Douglas Boren, 56, of Ammon, Idaho passed way unexpectedly on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at home surrounded by family and loved ones. Kirk was born July 22, 1959 in Pocatello, Idaho to Rex and Velma Kirkman Boren. Kirk was the 10 th of 11 children. He was a craftsman at Special Workers Industries for Training (now New Day Products) in Pocatello for 25 years. He spent most of his life in Pocatello riding his bike through town visiting friends and loved ones. Kirk was a talented harmonica player and spent many of his days at the Adventure Center in Idaho Falls during the past 15 years. Kirk was well traveled, having enjoyed adventures to Disneyworld, Disneyland, Georgia, Arizona, Hawaii and close national parks. Kirks mother, Velma, pioneered efforts to develop services for children with mental and physical challenges, despite a complete lack of support in the community at that time. Kirk got his love of rodeo from his father, Rex. Kirk loved participating in Special Olympics events, excelling in swimming, cycling and horseback riding. He loved baseball and particularly enjoyed a trip to see the Atlanta Braves. Kirk was cared for by his mother, Velma in their home until 1984, when his brother, Bruce, moved back to Pocatello to help care for him. Bruce built a home in Idaho Falls in 2001 and moved Velma and Kirk to provide a loving, caring home for them. Kirk spent the past 7 months in the loving care of Sarah and Todd Perkes and their children in Ammon. The Perkes family made Kirk a member of their family and he was very happy living with them. Kirks family includes Sherrel (deceased), Kent (wife Bobbie), Janet Hoke (deceased), Janele Clegg (husband Jack), Deanna (deceased), Derena Eckerly Booth (deceased), Bruce, DeNiece Boyer, Lorelei Bair (husband Dale) and Rex Reed and innumerable cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
